Breaking news - Waukesha WI - "mass casualty event" SUV driving into Christmas parade

Just seeing this on local news, CBS 58. 

Main St, Waukesha, a red SUV drove into parade goers. Someone is in custody, according to cbs.

Vehicle drove through a high school marching band and a dance team. 

A reunification center for families separated in the chaos has been set up near the metro transit center by Bank Street.

A common Wisconsin parade tradition has riders on floats tossing candy and small gifts to children - kids line the parade with bags to collect their loot. The holiday parade always highlights, on one of the last floats, Santa Claus and Elves, waving and tossing candy canes. The holiday parade is always filled with families, both marching and watching. My kids, in their younger days, marched with their scout troops and school band.

Update on local NBC station, 8pm: 

"WAUKESHA — UPDATE 8:04 p.m. — Waukesha police have said that they have a suspect in custody. They added that of the victims, 11 are adults and 12 are children. Police also said multiple people are dead but did not say how many. Police said that the shelter in place order has been lifted. An officer did fire their gun at the car to try and stop the driver. There were no other shots fired."

NBC update: Senior law enforcement officials say investigators are looking into whether the driver was fleeing an alleged crime that took place before the SUV reached the parade just after 4:30 p.m. local time. The SUV went through barricades set up for the parade before striking people, he said.

Members of a dance group called The Milwaukee Dancing Grannies were among those struck by the vehicle in this incident. They are a fun troupe of older women who perform dance and pompom routines in parades throughout the area.

Among the injured are a Catholic priest, as well as several parishioners and Catholic school children, the Archdiocese of Milwaukee said in a statement Sunday night.
