Some of you may remember Cenk Uygur. Some years ago, he had a show on MSNBC. He heads the Young Turks, a platform where the hosts regularly critique current political news and some pop culture in America. Most times, they’re criticizing the Democratic Party from the left.
Tonight, Cenk and his co-host Ana Kasparian had something to say about the defense attorneys in the murder trial of Ahmaud Arbery. The female defense attorney, for no ostensible—yet very discernible—reason decided to have the jury focus on Arbery’s bare feet (“with no socks”) and his “long, dirty toenails.” It’s so obvious that they are trying to portray Arbery as monstrous, not human (in fact, not even fully a creature, reduced only to nubs).
Near the middle of the segment, Cenk bursts into the most astonishing evisceration of white Southern anti-Black racism I’ve seen in any media, especially where the person speaking is not Black him- or herself.
