Before I go with my rant: In Virginia:
In an off year election with a poorly polling president, against a Un -inspiring candidate, you run on a GOP manufactured culture war issue and you win by barely 2 points: 2 points If 2009 in Virginia, Bob McDonnell ran a similar campaign and won by nearly 20. In New Jersey Phil Murphy scratched out a victory , while in 2009, New Jersey Loud Mouth Chris Christy won the governorship by nearly 6 points. Do you get what I am saying,? Getting back to Virginia, White Women did not flock to the GOP. White Women without a college degree did Many argue that is their home after all, The GOP margins of victory in 2021 were much smaller than in previous years. Stop saying it was a “blowout”
The GOP is great at finding Culture War issues to divide an conquer. You have to give them credit, they find issues to win elections that require noting. Run on banning something that nobody understands or is even teaching but gets people scared and you win, you don’t have to do anything Karl Rove did the same thing in 2004 with Gay Marriage. quite successfully (he’s a creep but a brilliant strategist )
So what do we do. How do we diffuse Critical Race Theory without throwing teachers and African Americans under the bus? My suggestion : get them involved : If the Congressional Black Caucus and teacher came together to develop some talking points in a language everyone understands and is comfortable, we might get this done. Of course passing legislation that makes a difference in people’s lives helps to. Addressing the Supply Chain Debacle as a National Crisis helps to. Judging by the margins in Virginia, we don’t need to move a lot of people Just Independents on the fence. I believe this is possible . We’ve done it before. We can do it again. We have no choice. If we don’t diffuse this issue, The GOP will use it as a club — and quite effectively they are good at that? They are hoping we think it just goes away. But we must address it and fast so it does not become an issue Thank you
