These Republicans are worried about Trump's attempted coup 2.0
(CNN) — CNN's Jake Tapper uncovers the planning and motivations behind the January 6 insurrection in a new documentary airing Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
He interviews numerous Republicans who were in the White House, in Congress and out in the states, watching in frustration and horror as then-President Donald Trump tried to mount his coup.
What I found most interesting, and disturbing, were their warnings that Trump could be learning from his mistakes and setting the stage to repeat his efforts to steal the election in 2024.
"It looks to me that he has evaluated what went wrong on January 6. Why is it that he wasn't able to steal the election -- who stood in his way?" Republican

Tapper closes the Documentary with several warnings and observations about what happened leading up to 1-6, and how the effort was thwarted by Republican Officials who wouldn’t cave under intense pressure; and how most of those Republican Officials probably won’t be around next time to stop the next take-over attempt.
“Except for a few reporters, all the voices you heard in this Documentary, warning us of the dangers that lie ahead — those voices were ALL from Republicans. No wild Liberal ideas here.”

I’m still processing what I watched last night …
The excellent reporting reads like a text-book case on how a corrupt authoritarian would desperately try to hold onto power — using all means at his disposal.
But for the bravery of a dozen or so GOP Election Officials, including the elected VP — it would have succeeded.
The ‘Trump coalition’ is going to great lengths — including horrific threats against those Officials and their families — to ensure such brave acts of Trump-defiance DO NOT occur the next time around. That IS the authoritarian way.
We’ve been warned.
