I usually try to write diaries which are funny, at least funny to me, if not to you. But this is not a funny diary even though I'm sure that I will disappoint a good number of my friends here. This is not a diary about donald drumpf and his love for golden showers. So, if you're looking for pee pee jokes, then urine for a disappointment.
And I apologize for the title of this diary. It is unadulterated click bait. But I’m a master at baiting people. But please don’t call me a master baiter. But seriously, I once wrote a diary on another site and the title was, “How to avoid click bait.” You have no idea how many people fell for it.
Okay, enough silliness. It’s time to get serious. It’s time to talk about the current Supreme Court, which is on the verge of overturning a decades-old precedent. They are about to overturn Roe v. Wade. And to a great extent, this diary is about how a world-renowned terrorist managed to tilt the Supreme Court and make it the Supine Court, and maybe even a terrorist organization. Yes, I’m talking about the former fuck. I’m talking about a guy who lost the popular vote by over 3,000,000 votes in the 2016 presidential election and by over 7,000,000 votes in the 2020 presidential election, but was able to install three Supine Court injustices who now get to decide who lives and who dies, who gets to vote and who doesn’t, who gets to choose what they do with their bodies and who doesn’t, and many other decisions that will make life miserable for the vast majority of people in this country, especially people of color, women, members of the LGBTQ Community, and just about anyone else who is not a rich white male.
But what is a terrorist organization anyway? According to the U.S. Department of State, “Foreign Terrorist Organizations (FTOs) are foreign organizations that are designated by the Secretary of State in accordance with section 219 of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), as amended. FTO designations play a critical role in our fight against terrorism and are an effective means of curtailing support for terrorist activities and pressuring groups to get out of the terrorism business.” https://www.state.gov/foreign-terrorist-organizations/. I don’t know about you, but the Proud Boys and the Oaf Keepers seem foreign to me. I don’t know any of them. And it seems like most members of the Supreme Court are really Proud Boys wearing black robes. And at some point, they will be wearing white robes...with hoods.
But what if a foreign power manages to install a Manchurian Manchild as President of the United States and the leader of that foreign power is a well-known terrorist who promotes terrorism to undermine democracies throughout the world. Yes, I’m talking about what the Mueller Report made very clear: it was Russia, Russia, Russia. And if you read between the lines of the Mueller Report, you’ll see what I mean: a lot of redactions. Thanks, Bill Barr, you piece of shit trump toady. And where is Bill Barr these days? Maybe the January 6th Committee should subpoena him to find out why he abruptly left the trump maladministration just days before the insurrection? What did he know, and when? I’m sure that Barr is sitting somewhere drinking a nice cold beer and enjoying his life. The only thing good about Barr is if he’s ever behind them. Before getting out of Dodge quickly, Barr “accidentally” bumped into trump and said, “Pardon me.” But again, I digress….
My point is that the current Supreme Court has made many decisions that terrorize the fuck of out me, and they should terrorize you, too. I don’t mean that they should terrorize you, but you know what I mean. Terrorist organizations threaten the security, infrastructure, or citizens of a nation or community by planning and carrying out acts of terror. https://www.rand.org/topics/terrorist-organizations.html. And isn’t that what the current Supreme Court is doing these days? Does their decision in Citizens United terrorize you? That corporations are people, too? And that they should have unrestricted and unfettered rights to choose who should govern our country? If corporations are people, too, then why don’t they pay taxes like people, too? Just askin’
The Dred Scott decision is considered to be the worst Supreme Court decision ever. This Supreme Court would probably not overturn that decision. Fortunately, the 14th Amendment turned this dredful decision around. But now Brett Kavanaugh is using that same argument to overturn Roe v. Wade. He’s arguing that a bad precedent, like the Dred Scott decision, was overturned, so why not overturn the “bad” Roe v. Wade decision? It’s amazing how right-wing zealots read the Constitution. They read it the same way that they read the Bible: they only pick and choose the parts that they like.
The great former Supreme Court Justice, Thurgood Marshall, must be spinning in his grave knowing that the second Supreme Court “Justice” is black and he’s an idiot. For example, during today’s oral arguments, Thomas asked, “Where in the Constitution does it say that a woman has the right to an abortion?” To which the smart woman lawyer replied, “Oh, it’s just in the 14th Amendment where it says that every person is entitled to liberty, freedom, and the pursuit of happiness.” This is not a joke.
The Supreme Court has not only terrorized minorities, women, and the LGBTQ Community, they have also terrorized those who care about the environment. Like, the decision in Exxon v. Baker. You expect the party responsible for a major oil spill to feel the full force of the law. Not so. According to one observer, “After years of litigation, Exxon Shipping was finally found guilty of the Exxon Valdez oil spill. Despite the verdict being accompanied by a $5 billion fine in damages, Exxon managed to get away with paying just $500 million after the Supreme Court ruled they should not be held liable for punitive damages in excess of compensatory ones. Within two days of the decision, Exxon’s stock jumped $23 billion; a rather unfair reward for causing one of the biggest environmental disasters in history.”
And if you’re a member of the LGBTQ Community, you might have heard of Bowers v. Hardwick. In 1986, the Supreme Court upheld the state of Georgia’s decision to criminalize gay and lesbian sexual activity. One of the few dissenters, Justice Harry Blackmun, reported “an almost obsessive focus on homosexual activity” during the ruling. And if you have healthcare, weren’t you terrorized when the Supreme Court came perilously close to overturning the Affordable Care Act?
But the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade, if it happens, will take us full circle. The key three Supreme Court injustices who will likely rule to overturn Roe v. Wade were appointed by a terrorist. A man who is responsible for the deaths of over 500,000 Americans and incited a violent insurrection to overturn the results of a lawful and fair election; to overthrow our government. But even I have to admit that there was voter fraud in the election. I just don’t understand how trump still managed to lose.
So, here we are. We have a Supreme Court with three members who were appointed by a known terrorist. And these assholes will be with us for decades to come. They are all very young. Maybe it’s time for Justice Breyer, who is 88 years old, to retire. If he does what Ruth Ginsberg did and wait too long to retire, this Supreme Court will really become even more ruthless. Maybe it’s time to expand the Supreme Court to at least 13 Justices. Republicans shouldn’t have a problem with that. After all, the Supreme Court of the Russian Federation has 115 Justices.
What do you think? Am I overreacting again? And please don’t be like Ronald Reagan. Remember his response (perhaps tongue in jelly bean) to the Chernobyl incident? He thought the Russians were just "overreacting."
