I will come clean...I LOVE TO COOK! But (and you knew there would be a but, didn’t you?) I have to write down & refer to my recipes more and more as I age. And the latest is smaller print and light gray letters on a white background that is an insult to try to read! My memory banks are getting rustier and the file drawers squeek!
I enjoy making many kinds of cuisines and my brain just can’t keep up anymore. On top of that, we have all been separated from our family, friends and just mingling amongst other people for 2 years and it doesn’t look like it will be over for quite a while! So, we cook.
You all have been very important to my sanity and I appreciate that “we’re still here”. I look out at the sun on a cloudless day or watching my Junco and Sparrow flocks eat the seeds I give them and admire their dynamics. And then there are the bullies on the block...the squirrels! (I feed them organic sunflower seeds) who have roamed up and down the block going from very skinny in August to very plump now. Supporting causes I care about and being OK that I can’t support them all. Living the life I have and not the one that got away.
I learned alot from my Mother. She was always the cook. I have so many pictures of her cooking over campfires, in our and family kitchens and the kitchen at her church. What good memories!
Dinner tonight is Potato & Leek soup and my homemade dill, caraway, marjoram and rye bread. What’s dinner at your house?
Write a diary and take it where it leads you.
