I just got some sad, but not unexpected, news. My grandmother Rita, who was the last living biological grandparent I had, passed away this morning at the age of 93. She had been in poor health for some time, but it is never easy to lose a parent, or, as in my case, a grandparent. she was married to my grandfather for 42 years, divorced then remarried, she outlived both her husbands. It was a rare treat to visit my dads side of the family, as the trek from where I live to where my dad grew up is over 800 miles by car. but it was always fun to visit her, to hear stories about what she did growing up- she would pick beans and crops alongside her brothers to help feed their family, they were farmers, and then as now, farming is not an easy occupation . She married my grandfather after he returned from serving in Germany , they were married in 1947. She had 6 kids, my father being the first son, and third child. I don;t know when the funeral will be yet, but i will be attending, to say my last goodbyes to my dear grandmother.
