While contemplating what to do for this month I felt my usual medical writing would not be suitable for the holiday season. So I am presenting something a bit different – an interview with someone who has pre-birth memories from spirit life, before incarnation.
A note to skeptics - you are entitled to your skepticism - I am not seeking to convert others. If you are interested in the theoretical basis for accepting the existence of a spiritual dimension, see my diary here. All respectful participation is welcome.

Melissa:
Hello friends welcome back to the channel. Thank you for joining me today for part two of my interview with Christian Sundberg. As I mentioned yesterday this is by far the most highly requested interview I've ever done on this channel. Part one is linked in the description, where Christian shares his in-depth pre-birth memories. Today we're going to do a Q&A where I will ask him my most pressing questions about the reason why we're here on earth, which he has a very unique and wonderful way of describing. I'm getting into the details as well as we will be getting to some of your questions about reincarnation and free will, and what about the problem of evil.
...
You were talking about when you came into the body about how the vibration was lowering so much and you felt like you couldn't do it and that's something I can also relate to. I don't have a specific memory of that. It's one of those things that I'm just grasping at - trying to remember what happened. Because I have dealt with so much fear especially as a child just overwhelming fear and anxiety and feeling abandoned and stuck and like trapped in my body. And I have amazing parents so there's not a lot of logical explanation for that. Obviously we all have our issues but I've been in therapy and I've talked about this publicly on my channel multiple times. Thankfully I have an open-minded therapist. Because I finally just brought this up and I said maybe I brought a fear in from before or maybe it's just coming into the body that I didn't adjust well; so anyway - my long-winded way of asking you - what's your advice for people for facing and overcoming that type of a fear?
Christian:
Yeah so first of all I very much resonate with what you're saying. ...So we're in a highly constraining state, by comparison [to being in spirit], in an extremely alien state by comparison. It's super bizarre being separate, not having that knowing, and not being able to feel each other's emotions. And it's not being able to be able to telepathically communicate - like it's super strange. So then we react in fear. But what's really important to identify, I feel, is that super constraining point that we've come all the way out to. It's extreme but it's actually neutral. It doesn't have a meaning on it yet. It's just that we tend to freak out because we haven't fully integrated this concept. So it's very powerful when we totally allow, and surrender to, and be present with this moment. Just being here. And that means totally feeling everything in you, even that deep fundamental existential terror. You know - the first fear when we become separate. Even that feeling of being limited or feeling separate or feeling powerless or maybe even being stuck in pain. Being totally present and allowing. And that doesn't have to be a huge endeavor. It's important I think to draw attention to the power of this moment this current moment. So much processing and integration and expansion is possible right now like any given moment.
So when that fear arises and when that feeling of panic, to the density or whatever fear it is, whatever deep fear arises, I feel it's important to totally feel it. Not look away, but know, allow, and surrender to everything you actually feel. There will be stories attached. I'm not talking about the stories. Got to get underneath the stories. I'm talking about the feeling itself. The feeling that feels intolerable, actually. To go into that and allow it. Where else can you do that than here? That feeling is like laying on the weight bench. Like right now we're on earth and it's like we're laying on the weight bench we're holding the weights and we're like, "oh my gosh this is heavy, this is ridiculous what am I doing?" But you might as well lift the weight while you're here. Because this is the chance to do it. This is a precious opportunity. And it's not just an opportunity so that you can get it out of the way so that you can feel better. Your true nature, our true nature, is already completely joy and peace and freedom. It already is. It's just our rejection of the constraints that hurt so much, so ironically when we stop rejecting and when we fully allow and meet and feel and process and accept exactly this moment, peace returns. Not because we tried to go get it though. Just because that's who we already are. When we're no longer fighting against, you know, the contrast, the peace and the joy of our true nature can rise up.
Melissa:
Wow that's so helpful! Thank you for explaining that...So I usually ask my guests when I have them on, when especially when I interview near-death experiencers, what is the purpose of life and why are we here? Now I already heard somebody ask you that in a previous interview, and your answer fascinated me, because you said that it's very hard to put it into words but it's about the expansion of love. So could you explain that to me, what does that mean?
Christian:
Yeah that's such an important topic I feel like I could talk about this one topic for two hours. Okay. So the purpose of the physical reality is to have a rich context through which to make choices. And so to wield intent is the more fundamental way to put that. So we come into a rich context of contrast and duality. That's this place here where we have discrete location, linear distance, all the good things that go along with these very rich concepts. And then we get to make choices in that context every day. And those choices arise from some intent, from some quality of being. And every day we are making choices. Again this sounds very dualistic. It's actually beyond duality but this is the language we've got. That choice, that intention, is arising either from love which is reflective of the unity and the joy and the freedom and the total acceptance of our true nature, or from fear which is our rejection of this set of constraints and our resistance, our yet unevolvedness. And where there's fear, ego arises of course. And we all do so. When ego is making choice, making decisions, that's coming from fear. Okay. So what does all that have to do with the expansion of love?
So when we can wield a loving intent in this context it is very powerful. It is not easy to bring forth a loving intent and all the things love can mean - kindness, compassion, understanding, patience, humility, authenticity. You know it's not easy to come from that place when the rigors of the physical are very firm. This place can get ridiculously intense sometimes. But the degree to which the context is extreme, the degree of the extremity of the duality, is the degree to which loving - actualizing love - is so powerful. The more contrast, the more opportunity for expansion. So it's that quality of intention that we bring into choice making. And if we can actualize love in this context that's so powerful. We learn in an experiential way. We grow in an experiential way.
So part of that is just making the choice, but also it's what I call the integration of experience. That means coming to terms with this place. Coming to terms with the duality, with the limitations, with the challenges, with the judgments, with the requirements, with the body that we got to feed every day, and the pains the body has, and the aging and the rejection and the money and going to the bathroom and all the things. As we integrate all that, and what I mean by integrate is we fully know, we fully process, that we fully know it in a way that's not just intellectual. It's an I've been there done that kind of deep being level knowing. As we do that even with potentially challenging circumstances, as we do that and we're able to actualize love even in challenging circumstances, because we overcome our own crap. You know we integrate experience it means we part of that is we face our own fear, and we process and heal our own fear, and as we do that that is so powerful. Because it's like we're using the contrast in a way that is - like if you push against a great weight then you are stronger for it. And I don't want to say it's about pushing against reality but it's not about pushing. It's simply that as we make choices and as we integrate this reality there is an expansion of being that occurs.
Just like when I first saw that powerful being of light - he was so full of power and joy. That reminds me of something that the out of body explorer Bob Monroe wrote in one of his books I didn't hear this until a few months ago or maybe a year ago. And it was exactly what I experienced. He said that beings who have mastered physical experience are like gods in other reality systems which are thought responsive. They respond to the consciousness of the individual. So if you've expanded and grown in this rigorous of a system well then you are super powerful, in those systems. And that was definitely what I experienced with this being. So that expansion of our being itself, of the quality of our consciousness itself, is an expansion of love. Because love is our true nature. So as that substance of consciousness refines, and expands, and overcomes, and grows, as that happens that is an expansion of love and joy.
And not only is that an expansion of love and joy also there's another way that duality serves that purpose. And that is simply that duality allows one to know a depth of something so that its opposite can be known. So if you want to fully understand forever what your freedom means, to know you're a free being then come into a human experience and know what it is to not be free. And really integrate that. Come to terms with that. Then when the constraints are lifted, later, now you really know. And not only do you really know, now you can appreciate and actualize that freedom that is true to you, that you never lost, but now is more deeply understood and deeply known. Now you can actualize that in an incredible new way. And in fact even just having desires in the physical is a service. Because we come from a state where there's no desire - there's nothing that can be unfulfilled. It's total bliss and being. So to come here in a place where you can feel what it's like to be unfulfilled and create a desire, even that is additive, because now you are creating a space that all that you are can expand into and fill. So contrast is actually an additive tool, not just a constricting tool. It's used by consciousness. You know consciousness uses contrast and form as a creative tool, and so as we expand through that process that is an expansion of love. The most simple way I can put it though I know it's really hard to put in the language.
Melissa:
That was really helpful. I think that's the most in-depth explanation I've ever heard! So would you say that as we're expanding ourselves in love and joy that's also contributing to the expansion of the universe or God or whatever word we put on it?
Christian:
Definitely. We are a part of that whole. We are a drop in the ocean. So as the as the drop in the ocean expands so does the ocean. I think this way - like being physical is like being on the frontier of creation. The frontier of all that is, expanding. And volunteering to be human and to be in an experience of this level of constraint is volunteering to be on that front here, and that is a powerful good service.
Melissa:
Well those are my two most pressing questions. I have a bunch of questions that people have sent in so I'll pick a couple of those. A lot of people want to know if we are, and I think I already know what your answer is going to be, but if we are somehow forced to come here and keep reincarnating or if we have any free will over that process? Some people I have even ran into, since I shared my story, say that they have a memory of being forced to come to earth and that they didn't want to. So what are your thoughts on that?
Christian:
I personally feel from my experience that there's no such thing, in the deepest level, of an incarnation happening without choosing. Because the spirit itself, the soul itself is a part of God. It is sovereign and truly powerful. There is no greater substance. There's no greater authority. So the only way that the soul can be limited and veiled is to surrender itself. There's no other way, because the soul is it is a part of that which is the ultimate power. But, one thing that can happen is that a portion of the soul - this is a very difficult [to describe] - so you are your soul - the soul's not some other being - it's you. It's the you that feels like you to you that's who you are. But the big you is much bigger than just the human character. And in fact it's kind of like there can be characters within characters. As an example it's possible on earth to be an actor and then you pick up a new character while you're playing this character it's like layers.
Melissa: Right.
Christian:
So there are many layers to the self. And it's possible for a relatively more local layer - I won't try to identify that - but to say like a given personality or some portion of the self to be kind of like wrapped up, like almost like in an orbit, around a reincarnation cycle. But that is not truly a no free will choice because the deeper portion of the self is participating in it. The deeper portion of the self is still is a part of the surrender into a veiled experience. So even if a certain lower portion of the self, a certain smaller portion of the self, is wrapped up within a reincarnation cycle and doesn't seem to have the ability to choose, that is similar to the way that here on earth we may feel like we don't have choice in any given thing. But we do*. It is very hard to speak to though, because the layers of the self and the breadth of spirit is just utterly beyond language.
*I asked Christian for clarification on this comment. His reply:
"In that quote I was speaking more to the broader choice making that is available to us than we may be aware of, even in many Earthly circumstances, but, to your question about pre-choosing a situation where genocide might be possible: Of course this question is very big, and nearly impossible to speak about even with many words, but I'll just make a couple quick comments. The probabilities (they are probabilities only) can be seen beforehand. They are not certain, they are potentials, and it can be very exciting to see what we can do with those potentials- maybe even change them, so that such suffering doesn't have to happen? Meanwhile, the Earthly ego may very much reject a circumstance of suffering or loss, but, experience is precious to the soul- even, and perhaps especially, experience of great contrast. The soul knows it is just a "play," a "game," and that no true harm can come to it. Being given the opportunity to meet even a very, very extreme situation of contrast with love- that is with bravery, compassion, kindness, etc.- is a HUGE opportunity. The soul knows the incredible potential for growth that exists. So it agrees, as it knows its true nature, and knows what there is to gain."
And I think it's very important in the context of that question to remind each other that freedom is our true nature. I know that when people take that idea, and then they say, "well now I'm afraid because now I feel like I don't even have power over if I come back". No you do have power - you are your soul. You are the free will agent making the choice. So what can you do - well you get to pick and you're going to be able to pick from a much better vantage point. But if you have a lot of fear and if you have a lot of attachments to certain themes or certain forms, you may even want to pull quickly back into experiencing something. But that's one reason why it can be useful to face our fears now while we're here. To face our relationship with reality while we have the opportunity of being this dense. There's a lot of work we can do here spiritually, that we can only do while physical. You might as well use this amazing opportunity while you're here and if you do that - that's very helpful.
Melissa:
In your understanding is there such a thing as evil and what happens to the people who do things that we would consider to be evil acts?
Christian:
Okay, so this may be controversial to some, but there is no such thing as a fundamental substance called evil. The fundamental thing that is real is only is the one thing - life itself, the life, the truth of being. The love and the joy and the freedom of being, that is the fundamental thing. There is nothing else that has fundamentalness other than that, nothing else, because all that is made of it. At the root level, what we all are is that life. Love and the beauty of beingness is the fundamental truth.
Okay. So but then, we decide to come into a veiled experience. In fact maybe not even necessarily a veiled experience - in this case we're very veiled - but a constrained experience of some system of constraints. And when we're constrained, fear can arise because we have not yet evolved to fully integrate this experience. And when fear arises all sorts of shenanigans happen, all sorts of problems. The ego rises up and the ego does whatever it can to "fix" the problem. It's not actually fixing the problem but it's trying. And what I mean is the ego will do things like buy into beliefs, self-justify, create stories to help the self, say if you feel like - "oh I feel powerless" - [ego:] "no you're not powerless because look you have money in your bank account". Or you feel like you don't have value? "see look you have value because look you can do this thing". Or you feel powerless, "but I can hurt this person next to me", now for a moment "see I feel powerful." Those are all games of the ego but they don't really have the true power - they don't have the substance.
But, we're all making choices from ego and fear to varying degrees every day. And when we do that we hurt. We hurt not only each other, which we do a lot, we hurt ourselves. And that pain is because we are acting in a way which is not happy. We are wielding an intention - acting comes after intention. We are wielding an intention that is not in alignment with the truth of our being. We're wielding an intention that is in alignment with the fear of this state, the separation. But the thing is this state of separation is actually an illusion. We're actually connected. We're actually whole. So we're basically aligning ourselves with an illusion and it hurts. Fear hurts. We hurt ourselves when we hurt others and that is very true of what we call evil.
We think it's a very powerful force that we need to strive against. The force is an unconditional love that has given us a choice even to come into a place where beautiful choice making is possible. And here in this place it's possible to make your best choices. We have free will. We can choose whatever we like. And in a system of free will when you take beings who have yet to evolve and you give them free reign, they're going to make ego based choices and hurt each other. And that's what's happening many times. So love is the answer. Face our own fear that's what we need to do.
Don't worry so much - a lot of people are very focused on the big problems on earth. The big political problems and you know the all the systems and all the organizations and everything that we've built on earth. Face your own fear. Work on your own intent. Bring love into your own life in the smallest way. It's just a play anyway. You don't have to worry about the whole thing and solve the whole thing. But if you can bring love even in the smallest way like what appears small in the physical surface I mean. The small, even though it may appear very small on a physical surface, it may be profoundly powerful in spirit, and actually have a hugely disproportionately positive impact on the collective consciousness. Even if you're making a small choice of love. So don't be overwhelmed by the scope. Just face your own fear, meet your own crap. Try to be responsible for your own imperfection, your own crap, and try to bring love into your own life in whatever small way you can. And I'm not saying it's easy. But if you're genuine about it that is more than enough, if you bring that authenticity into your own life and try to love who you are. You will be healing the world. That is the way to heal the evil - is just to bring love. Love is the healing.
Melissa:
Yeah thank you for sharing that, because that was one of my questions I was going to ask you - about the shift that we're going through now, which I recently heard you talking about that too. And you said in that talk, to not worry about trying to change the world or all the things that are going on in the world. That we actually change the world through meeting our inner space or our inner issues with love. Meet your own internal environment with love.
Christian:
We will heal the external too when our the quality of our intent is loving. Loving intention equals action. If you're holding a pen and you intend to drop the pen you will open your hand. So if you intend to be loving you will love the people around you. So it is also about physical action but it starts within. Your relationship with your reality is where it starts. Your relationship with your own life. What is your relationship to the world and what is the relationship between yourself and with your own thoughts, your own fears? If you work on that, we will naturally - because love is who we really are - we will naturally bring love to each other. Put another way when we get rid of the things we're not. That is when we heal past the fear and drop our associations with the painful story, love is what remains.
Melissa:
Well I could seriously talk to you for another hour, but, would you like to switch gears and share about your website and your book and anything else that you'd like to share.
Christian:
Sure. The book is available for free on my website. I just want to share. I want to say that first. The website is awalkinthephysical.com. I have a bunch of talks and links there. There's a book page. The third link down on the book page is to the free book. It's not about money and I just I want to share this message. And I want us to be able to help each other. That's my main intention. If anybody would like to reach me you can email me at awalkinthephysical@gmail.com. Sometimes I get a lot of emails so I might be slow and responding but I'll do what I can. I'll do my best to respond. Yeah I mean basically whoever you are listening today thank you for being here. You know maybe you've never heard someone say thank you for being human. Thank you for being here. Thank you for being you in your life today. And what you're doing is valuable and you are a powerful being of love. So if you remember that - it's okay if we're imperfect make mistakes and rough around the edges. There's some suffering that's okay. Still know that you are Love.
Melissa:
Wonderful and Christian's links will be in the description so feel free to check those out. Christian thank you so much. This has been amazing. Thank you for giving your time and answering our questions.
Christian:
Honored to be on the show. Thank you for also sharing your pre-birth experience. It's super cool that we can connect in this way.
