So Itw had a conversation with my twenty eight year old so, home for a COVID protected holiday. Chris Hayes was on in the background talking about January 6.
Son: Why do they keep going on about that.
Me: It is critical. We have to stay aware so that we save democracy.
Son: Save democracy?
Me: We have to make sure people go out and vote.
Son: In the mid-terms?
Me: Yes, there is no time.
Son: Nobody I know is going to vote in the mid-terms
Me: What?
Son: They voted in 2020, a lot of them went out and worked for Biden. Now they don’t know why they did it.
Me: To save democracy from a thug.
Son: They voted, they worked, and they got nothing. Is that democracy.
Me: What do they want?
Son: They are really upset about student loans.
Me: Aren’t they worried about democracy
Son: The way they see it, democracy does not seem to be working for them.
Me: What about the rise of authoritarianism?
Son: Authoritarianism, oligarchy? Which is worse?
Me: And if Biden cancels student debt.
Son: He won’t
Me: But if he does?
Son: I think the people I know will go out and vote
Stop saying we must do everything to save democracy if you are not willing to put skin in the game! On May 11 when student loans come due, cancel them up to $50,000. Yes, some people with money to pay the loans will get a benefit. So what? You need to get people to the polls. You need to save democracy
Media: People say cancelling student loans will hurt our economy
Biden: I think investing in your youth helps democracy
Media: People will say you did this just to get votes
Biden: People are right. If you are happy getting your loan cancelled go out and vote because the Republicans will take this away.
Media: Lindsey Graham is saying this will cost too much money
Biden: I will go to the gates of hell and battle Lindsey Graham to give our most important resource, our youth, relief
