I hate to have to ask, again, which is one reason it took me so long to write this... but on Thursday (12/23), I finally heard something official from park management about my lease. While I was thinking that I was "in limbo" waiting to get some sort of official notice from them, in their view, the one-month countdown to eviction started on Dec. 1, and ends on the 31st. (I don't know what will happen then, and am unclear on what recourse, if any, I might have.) Even now, they’re willing to take payment of the back rent, if I can get it to them by then. Anyway, back rent + late charges is in the vicinity of $1,200 (estimating December rent + late charge). I'm estimating January to be in the vicinity of $425 — mentioning this because it comes due on Jan 1. I’m been trying to contact places that might be able to offer assistance, but so far, they seem to be closed for the holidays.
My car is in need of repair (probably new alternator), which means that I can't get to anyplace that might be able to offer assistance. (Bus service in my area of suburban Louisville is basically "hub-and-spoke", and I'm between the spokes, so it's not very useful.) I can get a low-end battery for around $60 at Mal-Wart — the next step up would cost around $90 — and they’ll even put it in. That probably wouldn’t solve the problem, but should provide a bit of a margin, at least for a while. it’s about 5 or 6 miles away as the tire rolls, and since I can’t assume that whatever charge is in the battery will get me that far, or even that the car will start w/o a jump, getting the car there may require a tow($). I've had offers from neighbors to help with the car, but that being done depends on when they’ll have the time during daylight, and on the weather cooperating — we're expecting heavy rain Saturday and cold temps Sunday. At the moment, the only really reliable transportation options I have are cab$, which co$t too much to consider using, or walking, which limits how far I can go, and greatly limits how much I can carry, as well as eating up large amounts of time. It certainly means that, if I end up having to leave on foot, I will not be able to carry three cats with me.
As if that’s not enough, power and gas are off. I doubt that I can get them back w/o paying the full amount — around $900. (I have some power because trailers in this park are pretty close together, and my next-door neighbors are Good People, and let me run an extension from one of their outside outlets.) I’ll try LIHEAP again, but I’ve never had any luck with them before, so ...
So, call it $2500, so as to allow a bit for living expenses, with $1300 (rent + battery) being an immediate need.
