This diary should be viewed as a follow up to several others showing the culminating evidence of Trump’s criminal efforts to undermine our democracy.
First my article discussing how Trump encouraged high ranking DOJ officials to lie. The lie was to falsely tell state officials that they election was corrupt, which would allow other Trump operatives to convince the states to not certify their electors. www.dailykos.com/…
Second, DOJ lawyer Jeffrey Clark’s seditious letter sought to enact the scheme above by having the Attorney General and Assistant Attorney General lie to state officials by falsely telling them DOJ investigations had "identified significant concerns that may have impacted the outcome of the election in multiple states.” They refused to sign it and the lying letter was never sent. www.dailykos.com/…
Third, how such corrupt efforts to undermine the counting of the electoral college votes may constitute a “lay down case” for the crime of conspiracies against the United States. www.dailykos.com/…
All that combines with two late breaking news items this evening. First, Jeffrey Clark who had agreed to testify before the 1/6 Committee is backing out and invoking his 5th Amendment rights to do so. Second, he did this when he discovered the 1/6 Committee had metadata proving his draft letter was not just from him. It had White House fingerprints all over it. In other words, the White House drafted the letter that this Department of Justice lawyer then tried to convince his bosses to sign as if he drafted it.
If that letter was a crime that crime now involves people in the White House.
Two lawyers linked to Trump’s efforts to reverse the election results are now invoking the 5th Amendment privilege, John Eastman (of the “Eastman Memo” claiming Pence could just not count electoral college votes from certain states) and Jeffrey Clark. I predict that number will increase and eventually include Rudy Giuliani.
Jeff Clark’s letter was just the tip of the iceberg. The metadata sits below, and the 1/6 Committee has it.
