Lindsey Graham poked his head above the fray as soon as the Article of Impeachment was passed, warning Democrats NOT to call witnesses in the Senate Trial, or he would call in the FBI. Many people were reminded that, in Trump Impeachment the First, Mitch McConnell forbade the calling of witnesses, and the world was reminded of Republican hypocrisy when the clips from the Clinton impeachment documented the very same Senator from South Carolina telling us that it would not be a trial if there were NO witnesses.
Graham is reportedly already under investigation for allegedly meddling illegally in the electoral affairs of Georgia, for his phone call on Trump’s behalf to GA SoS Raffensperger. Which means that one of the Impeachment Trial jurors himself could have been a potential conspirator in Trump’s Big Lie which was the engine for Trump’s January 6th Insurrection and all that led up to it.
I can see why Lindsey really, REALLY did not want anyone calling witnesses, or he could have been thrown into the political wood-chipper, in the process.
But THEN, when some titillating newish evidence became part of the story, and the vote to have the option of calling witnesses finally materialized, I think Graham may have thought if he pushed too hard against calling witnesses, it would appear he was “protesting too much,” and took his chances.
It’s all blood over the dam now, and the repercussions of the the evidence being presented with such damningly precise storytelling will continue to bring new elements in the Insurrection narrative to light.
There is comeuppance coming. Patience and perseverance will pay off.
