Jonathan Gennaro Mellis neglected to bring his own melee weapon to a violent revolution, but there were plenty to share.

Federal investigators said a man from the Williamsburg area of James City County assaulted police officers at the deadly riot at the U.S.Capitol on January 6.
A criminal complaint filed by an FBI agent states that 34-year-old Jonathan Gennaro Mellis not only entered the Capitol during the siege, but that he attacked officers protecting the building.

Mellis faces the following charges:
- Forcibly assault, resist, oppose, impede, intimidate, or interfere Officers with aiding and abetting
- Civil disorder
- Restricted building or grounds
- Violent entry or disorderly conduct, obstruct or impede passage, and engage in physical violence on Capitol grounds
- Obstruction of Justice/Congress
Mellis recently moved from his parents home to the local county lockup.

Law enforcement officers spoke to "multiple concerned citizens" who had seen photographs, videos and statements on social media identifying people among the rioters, including Mellis, who went by the name of Jon Gennaro.

The FBI said during interviews two tipsters stated that Mellis, who they both knew as Jon, "posted on his Facebook page with increasing frequency about the politics and media coverage surrounding the 2020 U.S. Presidential election."
Mellis is being held at Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk and is scheduled for a remote bond hearing on Friday in the U.S. District Court in Norfolk.
Not content to be captured on police body cam footage, Mellis bragged about his exploits on social media.

According to a criminal complaint filed last week and unsealed Tuesday, Mellis was captured on an officer’s body cam video swinging and stabbing a stick at law enforcement officers trying to protect the building’s west entrance.

After the riot, Mellis posted on his Facebook page about “storming the castle,” the court document said.
“We want a forensic audit of the vote. Simple,” the post said. “We will not go away. We will not surrender.”
He also ensured he and his fellow seditionists got full credit for their actions.

A Trump supporter who said he participated in the January 6 Capitol riot expressed frustration over allegations that other groups were responsible for the insurrection, according to legal documents first reported by the Huffington Post on Tuesday.
"Don't you dare try to tell me that people are blaming this on antifa and BLM," a man named Jon Gennaro, identified by the FBI as Jonathan Gennaro Mellis, wrote on Facebook, referring to the anti-far right movement known as "antifa" and Black Lives Matter protestors. They are "too p----," he added.
"We proudly take responsibility for storming the Castle," Mellis continued. "We are fighting for election integrity."
