This is the time of year that I order water lilies and other water plants for my pond. Some years, I don’t buy anything and let the ones from the year before emerge for the summer season but the lilies seldom bloom as well if at all. They are considered annuals. The filler plants, papyrus or cat tails, penny wort or anacharis are perennial and stay all year but are quiet in the winter and really grow in the summer.
As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

I look at the plants, colors may vary, each year but many of them are too large for my small pond set up. I ordered some a few years ago and when they came, the lily pads were the size of dinner plates! The flowers were huge too. They have sent out lily pads more in fitting with the size of the pond for the last few years but no flowers. The space is to small for them to bloom. I have to remember to try to find the dwarf versions of most things and it is amazing what is available.
This year, I am going to order all new lilies and maybe a lotus or two as well. I can order one to bloom at each different times of the day and night. It is a good year to go big after the last year of doing without so much. I can hardly wait to spend some time with the new catalog and they will ship mid May. There are always buds just waiting to open when they arrive so it won’t be long before I have color in the otherwise mostly green garden. I’ll post new pictures.
