I’ve been wondering about this for a while, and I haven’t seen anybody talking about this, so, as we’re getting closer to the impeachment prosecution, I thought I would finally raise the question here.
As many of you know, on January 6, the date of the Trump-led insurrection, Trump attempted to call Tommy Tuberville, the newly elected senator from Alabama, and ask him to delay the electoral vote proceedings by objecting to as many states as possible. We don’t actually know that that was what was requested by Trump, but since his personal lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, also attempted to influence Senator Tuberville by calling and leaving a message on Utah senator Mike Lee’s answering service because he mistakenly thought it was Tubervillle’s, we know that Giuliani wanted Tuberville to delay the certification until Thursday evening because “the only strategy we can follow is to object to numerous states and raise issues so that we get ourselves into tomorrow -- ideally until the end of tomorrow."
Why until “the end of tomorrow”? What plan was in place to deal with “the end of tomorrow”? If I’m an attorney for the Democrats, these are the sort of questions I’d want answers for. Trump and Giuliani had a plan for “the end of tomorrow,” so what was it? What were they going to do if they could get the certification delayed until Thursday evening? Please comment if you have any ideas.
My personal idea was that they were going to go to the Supreme Court and ask that the results not be certified because the Constitution says that on January 6, Congress shall certify the results, and since they weren’t certified on January 6, the certification was invalid. Any other ideas?
