It’s a 50-50 Senate with a million critical priorities, so many of them existential to our ability to preserve the republic against the growing threat of conservative fascism. Had I written that sentence five years ago, people would’ve rolled their eyes at my supposed hyperbole. Heck, when I wrote a book called The American Taliban, I was attacked for being too mean to Republicans. They weren’t that bad!
Well, turns out they were that bad and worse. And yet, despite representing a distinct minority of the American public, Republicans have an outsized role in our politics because of unearned (and oftentimes racist) institutional advantages.
Today, we’ll be talking to Brian Fallon of Demand Justice on court reform, and what we can get accomplished (if anything?) given our 50-50 Senate. And we’ll also be talking to Bo Shuff, the executive director of DC Vote, on DC statehood, and what we need to do to make this a reality.
