This might be the first time I actually agree with something Tucker Carlson said on his nightly Fox News show. And this time the befuddled look on Carlson’s face is actually genuine.
There have been any number of diaries on DK about Rep. Matt Gaetz after news broke that the Department of Justice was investigating whether the Florida congressman had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and broke federal sex-trafficking laws.
But Gaetz’s bizarro interview last night with Carlson deserves a closer look, especially Tucker’s comments after listening to the Florida congressman rant on for eight minutes.
There have been stories on this train wreck of an interview in the Washington Post, Vox, and The Hill which go into great detail.
But Aaron Rupar’s thread on Twitter offers a glimpse into just how weird this interview was as Gaetz dredged up some old story about Carlson being accused of sexual abuse and dragged the host into the investigation as a potential witness.
So what happens Matt, when you’ve even lost Tucker. If you want to see the entire train wreck from start to finish, here’s the video,
Meanwhile, on MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow Show,” the New York Times reporter who broke the story about the DOJ investigation into Gaetz said the former DOJ official that Gaetz accused by name of being part of an extorition plot isn’t even involved in the investigation.
The former DOJ employee that Gaetz accused of going after him is David McGee, who now works at the Pensacola,Florida law firm Beggs & Lane.
McGee told The Daily Beast in an interview late Tuesday that any reports of extortion involving him or his firm were “completely, totally false.”
“This is a blatant attempt to distract from the fact that Matt Gaetz is apparently about to be indicted for sex trafficking underage girls,” McGee said.
