Hopefully, “Freddie” is just the first member of the Trump administration to be charged for their part in the Capitol Insurrection...

The F.B.I. said on Thursday that it had arrested a former State Department aide on charges related to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol, including unlawful entry, violent and disorderly conduct, obstructing Congress and law enforcement, and assaulting an officer with a dangerous weapon.
The former midlevel aide, Federico G. Klein, who federal investigators said in court documents was seen in videos of the riot resisting officers and assaulting them with a stolen riot shield, is the first member of the Trump administration to face criminal charges in connection with the storming of the Capitol by a pro-Trump mob.

Mr. Klein can be seen in video footage and other images dressed in a red “Make America Great Again” hat, slacks and a dress shirt as he tries to break past a line of Metropolitan Police officers in a tunnel near the west terrace, according to the document. “Klein quickly pushed his way to the front-left side of the crowd and to the doorway to the Capitol building, where he physically and verbally engaged with the officers holding the line,” the F.B.I. said.

Klein worked on Trump’s 2016 campaign and was then hired at the State Department. As of last summer, he was listed in a federal directory as serving as a special assistant in the Bureau of Western Hemisphere Affairs and was designated as a “Schedule C” political appointee.
Klein worked for a time in the State Department’s Office of Brazilian and Southern Cone Affairs before being transferred to the office that handles Freedom of Information Act requests, according to a former colleague who spoke on the condition of anonymity.
On Trump’s 2016 campaign, Klein — also known as Freddie — worked as a “tech analyst,” according to Federal Election Commission records. He earned $15,000 there, according to a financial disclosure he filed when he joined the State Department. He was paid an additional $5,000 by the campaign in 2017, the FEC records show.
Once again it was people he knew that turned him in...

The FBI arrested Klein after a member of the public who had seen the Bureau's poster pointed them to his Facebook page. Another witness contacted the agency to say they knew the man pictured on the poster by the name of "Freddie Klein."

According to his deleted LinkedIn page, Klein previously worked for the pro-life, pro-marriage Family Research Council as a researcher, and as a Republican state convention delegate in Virginia.
He graduated from George Mason University in 2002. Around that time, an individual with the same name is recorded as interning on Capitol Hill for former Sen. George Allen (R-VA) and working briefly for the House Small Business Committee.

Cecilia L. Klein said that her 42-year-old son told her that he was at the Mall on Jan. 6 but that he did not go onto the Capitol grounds.
"I asked him — he said 'I was on the Mall.' I said, 'did you go on the Capitol grounds?' He said 'no I did not, I was on the Mall,'" Cecilia Klein said by phone Thursday night.
She said she not know about the allegations or that her son had been arrested until she was contacted by Politico.
She said that her politics are very different from her son's and that he was not a top official in the Trump administration.
