Yesterday it was the news about a cop shooting an unarmed 13 year old and today I woke up to the news of the FedEx spree shooting where someone killed at least eight people. That story topped the page at HUFFPOST bouncing the story about the cop murdering 13 year old to the second story.
Down the page this caught my eye next to a story about the a human specimen named Ted Cruz:
The article includes a video with experts weighing in with their opinions that some of the videos that the Pentagon has been studying for years show airborne vehicles maneuvering in ways that no earthly technology would account for.
Nobody had yet posted a comment so I figured, what the hell, I’d be the first to make one even if it was an obvious one.
Where was the mother ship, and where did it come from. More important, are they trying to figure out whether humans a such a destructive force that they need to be eliminated before they advance enough technologically to threaten the peaceful galactic community?
There’s a common science fiction theme about aliens sitting in judgment over whether or not to annihilate Earth before they become a threat to the rest of those living on planets in the galaxy, for example:
Aliens may destroy humanity to protect other civilisations, say scientists
There are articles like “Aliens could DESTROY Earth if they found us but scientists still want to make contact” which say “MAKING contact with any aliens out there could be deadly for mankind if they turn out to be hostile, scientists have warned...but most still think it's worth taking the risk.” However, the question for me isn’t whether aliens who are watching the development of human space technology are hostile or not. I think it is more likely that their mission is to protect the peaceful sentient civilizations of the galaxy from civilizations where the most intelligent life (a least those with opposable thumbs) will be dangerous it they develop inter-galactic space travel.
Getting back to the HUFFPOST stories, if the alien judges monitoring the Internet just reviewed the stories in my illustration consider that five of the six about the United States this would help make the case that at the very least this country needs a major cleansing. Three are about killings, one is about voter suppression, and the other is about Ted Cruz.
Hopefully if we are being judged in a galactic trial our country will be put on probation at least until the next election to see the results. As for the rest of the world, these aliens judges have a moral conundrum. They must consider the ruthless authoritarian regimes whose leaders murder they own citizens in addition to what is happening the United States when they have to chose between eliminating human life on Earth and allowing our species to venture into space where in the next millennium they could be a threat to truly peaceful civilizations.
It is possible that the verdict for the entire planet will be an alien
This may not happen in our lifetime. I expect aliens advanced enough to travel light years have a very different view of time. They may give us a few hundred years to see if our species evolves to meet the standards of compassion and empathy for their own and other species to join a galactic community. However the closer mankind gets to space travel without evolving the more dangerous we become. This could come sooner than we think because there could be advanced civilizations as close as on one of the moons of Jupiter or Saturn.
