Three siblings of Arizona Rep. Paul Gosar say in a video that they want their brother held accountable and even jailed for being one of the key instigators of the Jan. 6 U.S. Capitol riot carried out by pro-Trump insurrectionists.
The video was sponsored by an anti-Trump conservative group, the Republican Accountability Project. The group plans to run the ad next week on Fox News in Arizona’s 4th C.D. which Gosar represents, and in the city of Flagstaff, where he lives, but is not part of his district.
“He should have criminal consequences,” one of his brothers, Tim Gosar, says in the video. “And if he’s found guilty, he should go to jail.”
Gosar’s sister Jennifer had this to say in the video: “There is no one member of Congress more responsible for the attack on the Capitol than Congressman Paul Gosar.”
Another brother, David Gosar, said, “How would it be just if the rabble pays the consequence and the ringleaders pay no consequence. We cant have a two-tier system of justice in this country.”
In the video, his siblings detail how Gosar took part in post-election protests outside the Maricopa County Clerk’s office and told the crowd, “This is our Alamo.” They also say he was one of the first people to spread the big lie about Dominion voting machines.
And they also describe Gosar as one of the “integral architects” of the Jan. 6 insurrection. The video includes a clip of right-wing activist Ali Alexander, an organizer of the “Stop the Steal” movement, saying that he was the one who came up with the Jan. 6 idea with Congressman Gosar.
Alexander and Gosar both spoke at a “Stop the Steal” rally on Dec. 19 in Phoenix. This is what Gosar tweeted on Jan. 6:
This isn’t the first time that Gosar’s siblings have spoken out against him. In 2018, six of his nine brothers and sisters released a series of campaign ads endorsing his Democratic opponent.
That prompted this reaction from Gosar:
It didn’t do much good. Gosar, who has been a House member since 2010, won re-election with nearly 70 percent of the vote in 2018 and 2020 in the deep-red 4th C.D. in north-central Arizona.
Gosar remains unrepentant of course.
On Feb. 27, Gosar was absent for the House vote on the $1.9 trillion America Rescue Plan to deliver the keynote speech at a conference organized by the America First Political Action Committee, which is linked to the white nationalist and anti-Semitic “groyper” movement. It was an extremist alternative to the annual CPAC conference if you can imagine that.
At the end of the video ad, Jennifer Gosar says: “Paul Gosar doesn’t support democracy. Sign the pledge that you won’t support him at accountability.gop.
(Note that the Republican Accountability Project is made up of Republicans who support GOP members of Congress who voted to impeach Donald Trump. Their website allows voters to make a pledge not to support any GOP lawmaker who tried to overturn the election results. It is for any sane Republican friends you may still have, not for Democrats.)
