Here’s some encouraging news today for U.S. Senator Mark Kelly (D. AZ) courtesy of OH Predictive Insights newest poll:
The 2022 Senate election is inching closer and the race for Arizona’s Senate seat is wide open. Kelly is on the ballot again after capturing the final two years of the late Sen. John McCain’s seat. As an incumbent, Kelly is leading all his potential competitors (a good sign for Kelly) but in no matchup does he exceed the 50% mark (a good sign for the GOP).
“It’s interesting that Kelly is beating out this broad range of Republicans, but he shouldn’t get too comfortable,” said OHPI Chief of Research Mike Noble. “He’s still vulnerable below the all-important 50% threshold, meaning Arizona’s upcoming Senate seat is still up for grabs.”
Digging into the all-important groups of Independents and Hispanic/Latino voters, Mark Kelly holds the lead against all his potential opponents by at least 9 points. Kelly’s advantage among these key groups is a significant factor for the progression of the upcoming race; the oft-overlooked groups of Independents and Hispanics/Latinos have proven to be among the most influential and growing groups of voters in recent elections.
According to the April 2021 State of Arizona Voter Registration Report from the Arizona Secretary of State, there are now more Independent (labeled “Other”) registered voters than there are Democrats in Arizona. Capturing the favor of these indispensable voters will be the key to crossing the finish line in the 2022 Senate race.

Arizona is going to be a big target for both the GOP to try to unseat Kelly and for Democrats to take the Governorship. It’s still early but it’s important to get ready now. Especially with Arizona Republicans eager to suppress voters:
Arizona Republicans passed a law on Tuesday that will sharply limit the distribution of mail ballots through a widely popular early voting list, the latest measure in a conservative push to restrict voting across the country.
The legislation will remove voters from the state’s Permanent Early Voting List, which automatically sends some people ballots for each election, if they do not cast a ballot at least once every two years.
The vote-by-mail system is widely popular in Arizona, used by Republicans, Democrats and independents. The overwhelming majority of voters in the state cast their ballots by mail, with nearly 90 percent doing so last year amid the coronavirus pandemic, and nearly 75 percent of all voters are on the early voting list. Under the new law, the list will be called the Active Early Voting List.
The State Senate voted along party lines to approve the bill, and Gov. Doug Ducey, a Republican, surprised many observers by signing the legislation just hours later.
The bill may be only the first in a series of voting restrictions to be enacted in Arizona; another making its way through the Legislature would require voters on the early voting list to verify their signatures with an additional form of identification.
