Hugs!
Yes, with the mask mandate lifted for the vaccinated, soon we will be to hug and dance with all our old friends. I’m so excited! Only a few more days for me and I’ll join the “fully” ranks. :)
It gives me hope. Here is a hopeful song.
Another thing that gives me hope is yesterday’s GNR. Even though, or perhaps because of the fighting going on between Israel and Palestine, a group of Arabs and Jews got together to show that peace is possible. There are some great joyful photos, if you click that link.
Now on to some fun animal stuff:

Now, some dancing!
This Week in History:
Speaking of dancing, last Monday, May 10th, was the anniversary of the 1899 Omaha, Nebraska birth of Frederick Austerlitz, better known by his stage name of Fred Astaire.
(If you want more of Fred, here’s a link to he and Ginger doing the Shorty George.)
May 14th is the 1796 anniversary of the first recorded experimental vaccination in 1796 by Edward Denner, who had heard that dairy maids who contracted cowpox seemed immune to smallpox. Fortunately, it worked! Just a bit of relevant science history.
May 14th, 1897, was the premiere of John Phillip Sousa’s "Stars and Stripes Forever". I have been in various marching bands in my life, and love a good Sousa … but everyone knows that one.
Instead, here is something I think my mom will find more interesting. I certainly did.
May 15th is the anniversary of the 1793 first glider flight, in Spain. The story is fairly involved, so I’ll just link to it: www.dailykos.com/…

Science
There was so much interesting science stuff this week I couldn’t really choose.
For instance:
- Scientists train honeybees to stick out their tongues when they detect coronavirus.
- It seems mammals can absorb oxygen through their intestines in an emergency.
