Let’s be clear. I don’t condone Rand Paul’s neighbor’s decision to beat the crap out of him, but I do condone (nay, applaud) everyone else’s decision to laugh at it.
Rand Paul is a doctor ... of sorts. He rather famously accredited himself through his own accrediting agency—an instance of self-gratifying and self-aggrandizing that, as an ophthalmologist, he should know puts him in grave danger of going blind.
Of course, as a self-accredited ophthalmologist, Paul knows fuck-all about immunity against communicable diseases. But that doesn’t mean he won’t try to pretend like the peat moss-pated, know-it-all cocknose git that he is.
Paul has had several verbal spats with Dr. Anthony Fauci, who somehow became the director of the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases without knowing what kind of eyeglass frames to recommend to someone with a winter complexion*, and now he’s decided that, having bumbled into a case of COVID last March, he’s got an X-Men superpower no one else knows about.
In a May 23 interview with Trumpy radio host John Catsimatidis on WABC 770 AM, Paul said he’s making the “personal” decision not to get any of the approved COVID vaccines because he’s already had COVID.
The Hill:
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends that those who have recovered from COVID-19 get vaccinated because experts are unsure about how long natural immunity lasts.
However, the Kentucky senator told Catsimatidis that until he sees evidence suggesting that immunity from the vaccine is better than natural immunity, he’s not going to get vaccinated.
“Until they show me evidence that people who have already had the infection are dying in large numbers or being hospitalized or getting very sick, I just made my own personal decision that I’m not getting vaccinated because I’ve already had the disease and I have natural immunity,” Paul said.
Now, while such occurrences are rare, plenty of people have gotten COVID twice. And, as always, what Paul doesn’t seem to understand (or wants to deliberately ignore) is that it isn’t all about him. If he got reinfected, he could infect his friends, family, and colleagues, including U.S. senators who are doing their best to avoid getting sick. There’s also the whole “setting an example” thing. And, you know, he was infected more than a year ago. Even vaccine manufacturers are now talking about the likelihood that vaccinated Americans will need booster shots before the year is out.
But Rand doesn’t care about any of that. To paraphrase his fake namesake ... “Asshole Shrugged.”
Not sure what this guy’s deal is. But on a scale of 1 to 10, how funny would it be if Rand Paul got COVID again? You can answer in the poll.
*Okay, I know ophthalmologists do more than this. Please reserve your formal complaints for thinly veiled masturbation jokes.
