Well, for some of us, anyway. My kids got their first and second doses of the Moderna vaccine at the same time I did. And apart from a sore arm have apparently been perfectly fine. For which I am grateful. Me on the other hand, not so much. I had an unpleasant reaction to the first dose, and expected to have the same this time. Silly me.
I don't want to go into a lot of gory details; it's enough to say, it's been three days now of feeling like I lost a fist fight with a badger. Actually, several badgers. Several very angry badgers who are possibly on meth. While suffering from an especially nasty migraine.
My symptoms, while miserable and exhausting, haven't been bad enough for me to want to go to the hospital. I'm more or less living in my bedroom now. With the door closed and the shades drawn. And I have a few suggestions for anyone reading this, who may be awaiting their second dose. Particularly if the first one made you feel crummy.
Have lots of water on hand, and food that's easy to prepare. Also whatever works best for you for pain. (you can ask your healthcare provider for suggestions) When people offer to help, LET THEM. Even if they tend to do things differently than you would. The brain fog that hit me fifteen minutes after I got the second dose made me intensely grateful that my son was driving us. I would not have been safe behind the wheel. I don't work outside my home anymore, but if I did I would definitely be taking time off while I get past this. You can of course just try to power through it. When I nearly fainted I realized that wasn't a good idea. Not for me anyway. Be patient with yourself; feeling ill and in a lot of pain for days on end can make a person crabby and snappish. I've done rather a lot of apologizing in the last three days. Fortunately for me, everyone else has been understanding and not inclined to snap back. Be prepared to let certain things slide for a few days. The housework and projects will still be there once you're past this.
Not everyone will have a reaction like mine. But forewarned is forearmed.
Did I mention the brain fog? I just proofread this and found so many errors. Bet there's more that I missed.
ETA Still glad I did it. Would do it again.
