California Republicans thought they had a good idea. They would go after Gavin Newsom for his support of COVID19 prevention efforts, and protecting the public health. In a field made up entirely of Republicans, the challengers all want to take their time to question how they would have done things differently if they were governor, and why Californians should listen to them.
Several candidates have announced they will run in a recall election, San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, businessman Jon Cox, Doug Ose — but one stands out from the field, Caitlyn Jenner. Not because of her advocacy for transgender rights, which in California doesn’t set herself apart from a lot of the other Republicans. No, what sets her apart is the level of media attention she gets, and the way in which it is being used to repeatedly humiliate the Republican effort to take on Newsom. , and cause regular Californians to realize exactly how ridiculous — and what a waste of taxpayer money — the recall effort truly has become.
After responding to questions about why Caitlyn should be considered, the questions pointed out exactly what was wrong with her candidacy. Outside of the fact she was a non-voter for almost 20 years, and hasn’t participated on the political side of the discussion for years, she capped the interview with a unique response to Joy Behar, as written up by Deadline:
One of the questions she faced came from Joy Behar, who asked her about the unfounded view of a significant share of Republicans that Donald Trump actually won the election, not Joe Biden.
“Are you one of those people, one of those Republicans?” Behar asked.
Jenner responded, “I am not going to get into that. That election is over with. I think that Donald Trump did do some good things. What I liked about Donald Trump was that he was a disrupter.”
The Republican party thought they could find Arnold Schwarzenegger, and that isn’t happening. This isn’t 2003.
