It’s been amply established that Franklin Graham has taken the legacy of his father, Billy Graham, and used it to become a water-carrier for the right. This has been much to the chagrin of left-leaning Christians like yours truly. Franklin took it to an outrageous extreme when he claimed that the Republicans who voted to impeach Trump for a second time had done so in return for “30 pieces of silver”—thus likening Trump to Jesus and the Republicans who broke ranks to Judas.
In contrast, Franklin’s older sister, Anne Graham Lotz, seems to have stuck to the mostly apolitical line her father took after he got too close to Nixon. That’s why it came as a rather unpleasant surprise to see her pose for a picture last weekend with Mike Lindell while at a Christian conference in Arlington, Texas.
Nope, this isn’t snark. See for yourself, via Lotz’s Facebook feed.
Lotz was in Texas this weekend for Ziklag, a Christian conference. After giving the opening speech, she posed for pictures on the field at AT&T Stadium—including with the MyPillow Guy.
Um, Anne? Have you been reading the news lately? Lindell has been one of the most obnoxious promoters of pernicious lies about the election—lies that have been debunked several times over. They have resulted in thousands of election officials and poll workers being harassed, trolled and threatened. And they have also led two voting systems companies to file billion-dollar defamation lawsuits against Lindell.
Lotz is pretty conservative, no doubt about it. Back in 2016, she told a Family Research Council conference that God was abandoning us “as we shake our fist in his face.” But she hasn’t gone full-on deplorable like her younger brother. That’s what makes her appearance with Lindell all the more disappointing.
