President Biden is giving away a massive portion of the Infrastructure package to gain Republican votes. There is no guarantee those votes will come to pass. In exchange, Manchin will only say that he will “work on” a reconciliation package for the other priorities. Biden is also hoping, per CNN, that this will somehow convince people of the value of Democracy in a way that securing the right to vote wouldn’t.
I don’t understand his thinking on the latter. We’re trading democracy for roads and bridges, we’re handing the Fascists across the aisle in the Republican party a major victory, and we’re handing the worst traitors in our own caucus a victory lap, the spotlight, and we’re validating their racist opposition to the right to vote.
What else is there to say? We don’t have a majority, and honestly, if we did I wouldn’t trust the Biden administration to actually pursue the bold change he promised. This is why the base stays home. We trade away the bank to the right wingers that pretend to be Democrats and their collaborators on the right, nothing actually gets better for regular people, and they take more and more power unto themselves.
What is it going to take to convince Democrats that Republicans are not just the opposing party, but a clear and present danger to this nation, a threat that has already attacked our country and will do so again?
I don’t understand the thinking. I don’t understand the argument. I don’t understand what the hell it is we fought for? Vaccines? Do we really think that the trains running on time will convince the base to fight like hell in 2022?
