Moderna, manufacturer of one of the three COVID vaccines that have received an Emergency Use Authorization (EUA), has applied for full FDA approval of its vaccine. How long the approval will take is anyone’s guess — Pfizer filed for full FDA approval in early May and there is no word when the FDA may give that vaccine full approval. Most estimates I’ve seen say the process could take a few months.
The FDA approval request for Moderna is for adults (18+) since as yet the vaccine is not yet approved for younger age groups yet.
Moderna has also completed Phase 2/3 trials for ages 12-17 and is expected to request an expansion of its EUA to include that age group at about any time.
The company began trials in 6 month to 11 year olds in March and trials are ongoing.
