What to Do About it?
Covid-19 cases are on the rise after a few months of decline. The states with the least number of people who have been fully vaccinated are rising at a more alarming rate than those states that have higher numbers of the vaccinated.
I don’t think, at this point in time, it is necessary to get into the science of it all. We’ve all have heard the science until we are blue in the face. That discussion doesn’t seem to be working. Therefore, I would like to try a more logical and consequential approach to trying to convince the non-vaccinated to get vaccinated.
The vast majority of those who have been vaccinated have not been contracting Covid-19. The few that have been vaccinated and still have been infected have had a very mild case of the effects of Covid-19. Whereas those that have not been vaccinated are still getting a severe case of Covid-19 and/or have died from it. That includes young adults and is rising in that age group.
Many of the non-vaccinated have complained that there are ill effects from the vaccine. Some of us have felt some ill-effects, usually after the 2nd shot. You have to ask yourself, would you rather feel not quite yourself for a few days or feel as if you you can’t breath, or unfortunately, many have died. The choice is yours. Simply put, that is the choice. There is no other.
Those of us that have been vaccinated also have choices, both individually and as a society. We can decide to not be around or interact with the non-vaccinated. That is an individual choice. As a society we can make the choice to limit public activities of those that have not been vaccinated. That choice is to allow those that have been vaccinated to live as normal a life as we possibly can.
I started this conversation saying that Covid-19 cases have been on the rise. The nature of viruses is to replicate and change in order to survive. This have already happened a number of times in this past year. Each new strain is getting more virulent and easier to be passed on from one person to another. The only way of stopping this is to wipe it out. If everyone was vaccinated the virus would be wiped out (for the most part). Just like we have done with many other viruses, i.e. Small Pox, Diphtheria, Chicken Pox, etc.
However, we live in a society where each individual makes there own life choices. I understand that and fully approve. We have, in the past, also made choices for the benefit of society as a whole. We have limited children from going to public schools who have not been vaccinated for other diseases like Small Pox, etc. By doing so we eliminated that and other diseases that used to make mankind susceptible to past pandemics.
I think that if we did not allow the non-vaccinated from participating in public gatherings, to include; concerts, theaters, malls, retail stores, restaurants, etc. that society would benefit greatly. We can’t continue to allow the non-vaccinated to continue to pass on Covid-19 or it will get worse. This is the nature of viruses. It very well could get bad enough that the current vaccines may not work. Haven’t enough people died already? We would not be taking away someone’s right to choose whether to be vaccinated, however, we would be restricting their access in order to protect society and mankind as a whole.
This type of approach has been done many times in the past and has worked. We must take this approach in order to stop the current pandemic. The current approach is not working. An individual’s rights do not outweigh the rights of the majority.
Bottom line, if there is one thing that I know is that I don’t want to get Covid-19 and I certainly don’t want to die before my time. How do you feel on the subject?
