Welcome to the Street Prophets Coffee Hour cleverly hidden at the intersection of religion and politics. This is an open thread where we can share our thoughts and comments about the day. The Northwest Museum of Arts and Culture in Spokane, Washington, hosted a major exhibit: Luminous: Dale Chihuly and the Studio Glass Movement. The exhibit featured the works of 33 major artists. Shown below is some of the abstract glass sculpture which was displayed.
According to the display:
“Abstract forms began to appear in early 20th century paintings and sculpture, challenging the idea that art existed to represent the world around us. Artists in the studio glass movement built on this tradition by taking full advantage of the medium’s translucence and varied color that was not available in traditional sculptural materials like bronze or marble.”
