I’ve been wondering how to reach the Trump faithful and get them vaccinated. Covid cases are rising. Hospitals in some rural areas are being overwhelmed again. We’re in danger of moving backwards. Frankly, I’m desperate. I think part of the answer may be to invoke (involve?) Donald Trump, pander to his ego and be a little fast and loose with the truth to get his minions vaccinated (like I say, desperate).
I propose that President Biden call his rural/underserved communities vaccine outreach program “Operation Warp Speed II” and, at the same time, double his efforts. As part of this, President Biden should address the nation. He should credit President Trump and Operation Warp Speed with the amazing achievement of funding the vaccines, reducing Covid and allowing this amazing economic recovery along with the Biden administration’s work to get the vaccines distributed and administered. The President should say that this is an incredible legacy for Donald Trump and America. However, President Trump’s achievement is in danger. Unless we get the rest of the country vaccinated, and soon, his legacy will be destroyed by his very supporters. Ex-President Trump needs you to protect his legacy.
The President could also point out the Donald Trump, Sean Hannity(?), presumably Tucker Carlson (we presume because he will neither confirm or deny), and various other conservatives, religious leaders and Republicans have all been vaccinated. Invite President Trump to make a statement encouraging vaccination, or play the clip from Fox News where he said people should get vaccinated.
I realize that giving President Trump more credit than he deserves and minimizing his otherwise disastrous response to Covid may give President Trump a certain legitimacy he doesn’t deserve and potentially help him in 2024. And it is going to be unpleasant orange-nosing the former President. However, in my experience on Facebook, his minions already believe he single-handedly stopped the virus and isn’t getting the credit he deserves while perplexingly saying in the same breath that they won’t get vaccinated. Maybe this is wishful thinking on my part, but could this provide them with motivation to get the vaccine?
