Jenna Ryan is a well to do real estate agent from Dallas Texas. She flew to D.C. to participate in the January 6 rally there in a private jet. She was among those who entered the Capitol. She happily tweeted a picture of herself next to a shattered window, and used her lawlessness to argue on social media that people would want her as a real estate agent. She later tweeted, “We just stormed the Capital. It was one of the best days of my life.”
On February 10th she was arrested and charged. She was not charged with any violence. She originally took an appropriately conciliatory tone, as a defense attorney would like their client to do. She claimed to have been caught up in the moment and fired up by Trump's speech saying to "fight like Hell." She said more to blame Trump. "I was doing my duty for my president," she told a local news station. She added that, "I bought into a lie, and the lie is the lie, and it's embarrassing. I regret everything."
Alas, such contrition did not last long. A few weeks later she posed with her attorney in a tweet saying they discussed "protesting" the charges against her, asserting she "did nothing wrong."
Then she did one of the all time colossal stupid tweets of all time. She bragged that she would not go to jail because she is rich, and has "blonde hair and "white skin." Yes, she really said that. The amazing part of this, to me, is that the tweet is still up.
I am gobbersnocked that her attorney did not tell her to delete it (in case she finally does I'm include a picture of it above).
Notwithstanding her March defiance, today Ms. Ryan pled guilty to charges that carry up to six months in prison. Prosecutors have not agreed to any sentencing recommendation. The sentencing hearing is scheduled for November 4th.
At that hearing you can expect the prosecutors to present that tweet as evidence that Ms. Ryan remained unrepentant for her crimes, a factor that can be considered when sentencing her.
