My brother sent an email to family and friends with the link to this Daily Kos story and, in part, the commentary, "I SERIOUSLY struggle with how to process this news..."
Here is my response:
I've been thinking about this since you sent it.
It's a difficult bit of news to process for sure.
Here's where I land:
Last year Dad was so upset about all of the COVID deaths that he said Trump should have 140k (at the time) individual charges of intentional reckless homicide.
I am against the death penalty. If one innocent person (example:
George Junius Stinney, Jr.) is murdered by the "state" then it is wrong. To prevent that from happening, abolish the death penalty permanently.
However, as it now stands, Texas is a capital punishment state. Greg Abbott (and Dan Patrick) are recklessly endangering the public with their policies, their words and their actions. I agreed with Dad about individual murder charges for Trump. Therefore, Abbott and Patrick should be just as culpable.
In a hypothetical Texas court case against Abbott and/or Patrick, if found guilty, they could be sentenced to capital punishment (death).
With this news, if he dies, though sad, it is the swift hand of justice of nature/God/Karma to punish him for his crimes against humanity. You reap what you sow.
If he tended his flock and his garden (constituents/general public, with whom he is charged with the task of governance and protection) and took seriously the science and medicine, he most likely wouldn't have contracted COVID. We wouldn't be reading this gut-wrenching, difficult story if he had done the right thing and had been "better safe than sorry."
For whatever it's worth.
Peace be unto you all. Stay safe.
Asa
