Is climate doom on our horizon?
The following poem began as a few words in a comment I made on a DK post by Atvolunteer called All Is Lost: www.dailykos.com/… So my thanks to Atvolunteer for the inspiration. I am inspired, amused and informed every day by the posts here on DailyKos — this is a great place. Anyway, on to the poem...
“The Time Has Come,” the Walrus Said... Maybe Not Yet for the Climate Doom
We are a diverse species
In our activities.
Even as the greeds
Continue to place us
All in peril.
The rest of us
Are actively changing our ways
To travel down the path
Of survival and thrival.
And even though we've seen
The seas are boiling hot enough
To cook poor oysters and clams
We have not yet seen
Pigs that fly,
So there is hope.
And by planting carbon capturing
Trees and hemp and algae
Retrofitting solar panels on buildings old
Making aluminum batteries
To power our electric cars
Turning back from plastic
To wood and glass and ceramic
By eating less and more wisely...
This could be the time we use
Our wits and grit and
Technological talents
To stall and reverse
The rising temperatures
And get us past the climate hump
To a planet worth living on
And a people worthy of it.
