A poll released today shows the recall election against Democratic California Gov. Gavin Newsom opposed by a majority of Californians. This one, from the Trafalgar Group, has 52 percent of likely voters opposed to recalling Newsom, with 44.4 percent supporting the recall.
The poll was conducted last Thursday through Sunday (Aug. 26-29) and has a margin of error of 2.98 percent. Trafalgar is rated A- by FiveThirtyEight.
This is the third poll in a row to show more than 50 percent opposing the recall and with support for the recall in the lower 40 percent range (42 percent, 43 percent and 44.4 percent, respectively). It has only 3.7 percent undecided.
This compares to a Survey USA poll released yesterday showing 51 percent opposing the recall and 43 percent in support.

Like most other recent polls, this one has conservative Republican Larry Elder leading the pack of those who would replace Newsom should a majority of voters end up voting for the recall of Gov. Newsom. Elder leads with 29.2 percent, followed by Democrat Kevin Paffrath with 22 percent support.
Of course nothing’s for certain and polls are just that...polls...snapshots in time of a certain number of likely voters (1,088 in this case).
However, it looks like the momentum that had been building over the past few months in support of the recall may have stalled.
With less than two weeks to go to the Sept. 14 election, this and other recent polls show anti-recall sentiment above 50 percent.
