As you can see by Itzl's concerned look, this group is for us to check in at to let people know we are alive, doing OK, and not affected by such things as heat, blizzards, floods, wild fires, hurricanes, tornadoes, power outages, or other such things that could keep us off DKos. If you're not here, or anywhere else on DKos, and there are adverse conditions in your area (floods, heatwaves, hurricanes, etc.), we are going to check up on you. If you are going to be away from your computer for a day or a week, let us know here. We care!
IAN is a great group to join, and a good place to learn to write diaries. Drop one of us a PM to be added to the Itzl Alert Network anytime! We all share the publishing duties, and we welcome everyone who reads IAN to write diaries for the group! Every member is an editor, so anyone can take a turn when they have something to say, photos and music to share, a cause to promote or news!

So, at this time last week, I was in a complete panic. My laptop had suffered a complete drive failure, from which I found myself completely unable to recover it, no matter what tools I was able to bring to bear. As you can imagine, my vocabulary for vulgarity got a bit of a workout, and I spent a bit of time in tears. If you don’t understand why imagine losing your main tool for communicating with the outside world.
After I forced myself to sit still and count for a while, until I was calm again, I borrowed Mom’s computer long enough to let my small group of star trek role players know that I was going to miss our game and that I was going to be gone for a while.
This is where things took a turn I wasn’t expecting. See, much like Kirk and company, my small crew does not tend to accept failure. They don’t believe in the no-win Scenario. This is why, by midnight Sunday, I received a message asking me to check my PayPal account. Upon logging in, I discovered $250.00 waiting for me. Within less than 24 hours, my crew of nine had clubbed together and sent me enough to allow me to do two things. First, to purchase a used laptop from a local friend of mine,. and two, in doing so, also providing the money that allowed him to pay his monthly child support.
The laptop isn’t the best. I won’t be Gaming for a while, but it will be enough to let me make my weekly role-play, and to keep me in touch with friends, family, and IAN! So, in short, I’m back, and I have Star Trek to thank for it!
