Three people were arrested for allegedly assaulting a New York City restaurant hostess on Thursday after she asked a group of diners visiting from Texas to show proof they had been vaccinated before seating them. Cellphone footage obtained by NBC New York shows a brawl involving several people outside Carmine's Italian restaurant on the Upper West Side. Staff and bystanders intervened to break up the melee after it broke out around 5 p.m. ET, the station added.
The hostess, who has not been identified, was repeatedly punched and her necklace broken, police said. One unspecified patient was taken to the Mount Sinai Hospital, the New York City Fire Department said, without stating their condition. The three suspects, whose ages are 21, 44 and 49, were taken to NYPD's nearby 24th precinct station house, police said.
Carmine’s is displeased..
Carmine's said in a statement to NBC New York that it was "shocking and tragic situation when one of our valued employees is assaulted for doing their job — as required by city policies — and trying to make a living."
So, uh, yeah. Three Texas women who feel, apparently, superior to other people and not subject to another state’s laws and requirements, decide that their inconvenience was such as to precipitate a need to violently assault a hostess doing her job. But..why would Texas, or Texans, get the idea in their head they are not subject to rules?
“The federal government needs to stop trying to run private businesses,” (Texas Governor Greg) Abbott spokesperson Renae Eze said in a statement. “Texans and Americans alike have learned and mastered the safe practices to protect themselves and their loved ones from COVID, and do not need the government to tell them how to do so.”
Abbott has encouraged Texans to get vaccinated but insists that they shouldn’t be forced to do so. At the governor’s request, state lawmakers will consider legislation to bar local governments from mandating COVID-19 vaccinations for their residents when they convene later this month for a third special session.
“Biden’s vaccine mandate is an assault on private businesses,” Abbott tweeted on Thursday evening. “Texas is already working to halt this power grab.”
This is dangerous language. He is basically signaling that Texans should not be subject to such rules, and concerningly distinguishes between Texans and Americans, but hints that both should not be subject to the “power grab.”
Republican Governors are conditioning their voters to not respect the rule of the Federal Government, and more and more, are acting like they are separate nations altogether. We saw this with Pandemic Unemployment Assistance, we saw this with mask mandates, and we see this with vaccine requirements.
But the poor hostess, just doing her job, didn’t see three violent women coming her way in time.
Texas might just get their border wall after all if the secession movement takes hold,
But it might be Oklahoma putting it up on the Red River.
