There’s a CNN story — “More than 100 part-timers at Indiana University Health left jobless for refusing Covid-19 vaccine” on their front page now, about workers in an Indiana health care system refusing vaccines and losing their jobs. You have to read to the 4th paragraph to find out there are 34,000 workers in the system, and you have to do the math yourself to realize that means about a 1/3 of a percent are refusing to take the vaccine. And CNN is using up valuable space on their page for this trivia. If the headline were “less than 1% of health care workers are refusing to get a vaccine when it’s mandated”, it would be useful and accurate, but this?
I know people in the comments often jump in to say the problem is with the headline writer, not the journalist, but I’ll disagree on this one- this is on the journalist(s). They either have an agenda or are both innumerate and incompetent.
