Trump voters are dead wrong. Dead. Wrong.
Trump voters would literally rather die than admit they were:
- Wrong about Covid-19
- Wrong about the vaccines
- Wrong about grifters selling “alternative” medicine
I am astounded by this.
Their wrong-headedness is literally killing them and they still won’t change.
They prefer magical thinking to critical thinking.
Well, sure, who doesn’t.
From a screen writer.
But as much as I like visiting the worlds of Oz, Star Trek, Marvel, Potter, et al, I know that they are not real. They are fantasies.
And it’s OK to enjoy them, if you know that they are flights of fancy.
Watching Republicans over the past 2 years has been like watching a third of the country trapped in a fit of deadly mass hysteria.
This is not normal. This is not healthy.
These are not school children imagining that they are sick until they scare themselves into developing physical symptoms.
These are not Lord of the Flies boys enacting cruelty in a microcosm.
These are folks to doing real harm to themselves and their communities.
And, as governors, members of Congress, and judges, doing harm to all of us.
America-
We have RWNJ problem. If you believe the big lies about Trump, you’ve prepped yourself to believe a ton of other big lies. About elections and voting machines. About Jewish sky lasers. About what is actually written in the US Constitution.
We also have a very large mental health problem. I can accept that standard Western medicine does not have every answer to every problem, if you can accept that bells, and crystals, and turmeric are not universal cures either.
We have a magical thinking problem. If you think you are about to hit another car on the highway, for God’s sake, do not close your eyes and let Jesus take the wheel.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make him think.
The first third of folks raced to vaccine clinics to get their shots as soon they were eligible. The clinic I worked at for 6 months gave 1200 shots a day at the height of demand.
The second third took took a bit more time. Some needed to be convinced by a source that they knew and trusted personally. Some had to have the experience of knowing a loved one, neighbor, or colleague who become very sick or died of Covid. Some needed the carrot of a cash payment or a paid day off of work. Some needed the stick of potentially losing their job.
And some, I suspect, were watching those of us in the first group, to see if we keeled over or developed spots or became zombies. We didn’t, so, okay.
I give up on the last third of active anti-masker, anti-vaxxers.
They have worn me out.
I surrender my efforts to reach out to them.
I am tired of trying to reason with them.
I am tired of screaming at them.
I am tired of trying to understand them.
I am tired of caring more for their lives than they do.
The dying Trump voters have worn a hole in my heart.
I no longer care if they live or die.
There is no schadenfreude reading about the 10,000th anti-vaxxer who died.
There is no longer any sorrow for them either.
I do want them to stop clogging up the wards of the hospitals they despise.
The damage they are doing to our healthcare system is dangerous to all.
Our medical workers are exhausted.
There is grave danger to all of the real women and men who spend every day trying to save the lives of RWNJ who came to the hospital for help, despite the fact that they reject the science-based medical treatments, and then try to have doctors, nurses, and technicians inject them with poison.
I am fully vaxxed, wear masks, and, if allowed, will race to get a booster shot.
So anti-maskers, anti-vaxxers who are dying of Covid, here’s what I’ll do for you.
I will drive you to:
- Your Church to be with your prayer circle at the end
- Your nearest mobile morgue truck to await a vacancy
I will not take you anywhere near someone with a medical degree so you can yell at them for not doing procedures that will actively kill you.
I will not wait with you while you die.
You have prayed for this moment all of your lives.
Have at it.
I’m tired.
