I got my BOOSTER, today!!! (Yes, I used all CAPS because I’m shout out level HAPPY!)
It was super easy. I just walked into our local Kroger’s Little Clinic, and 15 minutes later, I had my 3rd Pfizer shot.
As a teacher, we received our initial vaccines early in the year. My second one was in February, so I was going on 8 months. In our District, our students wear masks, but even with them trying their best, they do drop below their noses here and there. We have our classroom windows open, but I’ve been nervously anticipating temperatures where we will need to close up. So, I’m thrilled to be BOOSTED!
I’m in my early 60’s and my Husband is in his 70’s. Thank you, Pfizer, FDA, CDC and President Biden. As a team, you possibly saved our lives, and I know you saved my livelihood. I would not have been able to continue teaching without this BOOSTER, since the risk would have been too great for me to continue in this profession that I love. Last year, they had me serve as a 100% Virtual Teacher, due to my age and underlying conditions, for our students who had elected to be 100% Virtual all year due to their own health and family situations. However, we are ALL back in the classroom, this year, so I don’t have a virtual option, anymore. It was either getting this Booster, or I’d have had to leave teaching. Thank you for allowing me to stay healthy and with my students!
I am deeply grateful and VERY relieved that my immunity will soon be back up in the 90’s. Hoping that everyone in the DKos community who may be facing waning Immunity will be similarly BOOSTED soon!!
UPDATED: Hat tip to Easyone for prompting me to also Thank the scientists Kariko and Drew Weissman who won the Lasker Prize for their innovations that led to the vaccine.
Updated, again w/ Reaction Next Day: Sooooo, I am having one helluva a reaction to this 3rd shot, which is actually a really good sign, but I sure am kicking my own butt right now.
The first 2 shots, I only had mild reactions that I could’ve gone to work the next day with. Starting about 8 hours after the shot, my T-cells sure did remember, and my body has been throwing the proverbial kitchen sink of an Inflammatory Response ever since. Your body’s Inflammatory Response has a number of tools it uses to try to kill off enemy invaders such as running a fever. Many pathogens can only survive in a narrow temperature range, so our bodies increase our temperature just-in-case the invader is sensitive to heat. Then, we release chemical poisons and other cells go into the fight to swallow up invaders. It’s clear that my body thinks Covid has gotten into my system, and my body is going all out for me. Fever up at 101 (with aspirin) and absolutely horrible, ice cold chills — so cold they’ve been painful. Body aches greater than my chronic pain meds can cover. Whew! I’m glad I planned to do this on the weekend with a day off to recover if I needed it. I’m actually delighted that I feel so wretched. It’s a sign that my T-cells are ready to go to fight like hell, so I’m sure they to my B-cells to order up more antibodies!!!
In the meantime, I’m going to have another blueberry milkshake and chicken soup.
