My wife grew up in Tacoma, WA. I met her at Pacific Lutheran University in 1969, married in 1971. Her older brother moved out to Fox island around that time. Everyone thought he was nuts, way out in the country. What a view.
We went up at the end of June for a few days. It got hot.
Let’s take a walk around their yard.
Let’s take a run from the Fox Island Bridge toward home up Hale’s Passage. I am at the helm and running the video. It’s a nice boat, just not big enough.
It was hot. My BIL is 79, retired Insurance broker. Nicest guy in the world, but a wealthy old school republican historically. We don’t talk politics now.
He said it had never been this hot. I agreed.
He said no one saw this coming. I disagreed.
Oregon State University had an interdisciplinary project in 1972 called Religion Ethics and Ecology. I took the class. We got the chart showing warming and CO2 increases with the different upward curves. Do nothing was not a good look.
A couple years ago we drug the 1982 chart out of Exxon. Different scientists, same chart.
My question for my BIL was real simple. If we do nothing, will this place be habitable for humans? You grandkids are 15 & 13. Will there be water here for them in 50 years? It got his attention.
I am staying home for three weeks. I am on many pre-vaccine protocols, just because I want to do all I can to avoid Covid. I will see my children and granddaughters this week.
