Ever wish you were a “fly on the wall” — when the plot to throw out the swing state election results, was being hatched — and then {partially} squashed?
Well wish no longer, thanks to the reporting of Jonathan Karl:

“My attitude was: It was put-up or shut-up time,” [Bill] Barr told me. “If there was evidence of fraud, I had no motive to suppress it. But my suspicion all the way along was that there was nothing there. It was all bullshit.”
[...]
As proof of fraud, Trump’s allies had pointed to videos showing boxes filled with ballots arriving at the TCF Center, in Detroit, to be counted after the 8 p.m. deadline for votes to be cast. But Barr quickly found that there was a logical explanation. It had to do with how the 662 precincts in Wayne County, home to Detroit, tabulate their votes. “In every other county, they count the ballots at the precinct, but in Wayne County, they bring them into one central counting place. So the boxes are coming in all night. The fact that boxes are coming in—well, that’s what they do.”
[...]
Barr also looked into allegations that voting machines across the country were rigged to switch Trump votes to Biden votes. He received two briefings from cybersecurity experts at the Department of Homeland Security and the FBI. “We realized from the beginning it was just bullshit,” Barr told me, noting that even if the machines somehow changed the count, it would show up when they were recounted by hand. “It’s a counting machine, and they save everything that was counted. So you just reconcile the two. There had been no discrepancy reported anywhere, and I’m still not aware of any discrepancy.”

It’s amazing how much communication there was between the Republicans and the Attorney General Barr. According to that article, McConnell talked to Barr frequently, urging Barr to call BS on all the Trumped up claims. McConnell was desperately worried about the close Senate races in Georgia — and was trying to thread the political needle there, with Barr’s help to put out the Big Lie brush fire. (While tricky-Mitch attempted to remain above the volcanic fallout, and hold on to his Leader seat.)
It seems like Bill Barr obliged him, if that Jonathan Karl article is to be believed. And the former Trump-loyalist A.G. Barr got the full-court rage-oholic treatment from the certifiable 2020 Election Loser. Here is a brief sample of that dinner table dialog, the night Bill gave him the ‘bad news’:
Trump brought up Barr’s AP interview.
“Did you say that?”
“Yes,” Barr responded.
“How the fuck could you do this to me? Why did you say it?”
“Because it’s true.”
The president, livid, responded by referring to himself in the third person: “You must hate Trump. You must hate Trump.”
Seems Donald had long since forgotten about Barr’s ‘executive-rewrite’ of the Mueller Report. What have you done for me lately Barr? Barr resigned shortly after the explosive showdown dinner.
Which then left them only a few other “legal” doors to choose from:
Door Number Two: Pressure the new acting A.G. Rosen to pick up the ball Barr fumbled, and declare some sort of ‘DOJ emergency’.
Or Door Number Three: If Rosen won’t play ball — fire him, and replace him with Jeffrey Clark, who was all-in on the Election Overturn scheme.
It seems that Mark Meadows had the new acting A.G. on speed-dial, given the frequency with which he instructed the A.G. what to do. J-6 Documents show that Meadows was pressuring acting A.G. Rosen to find Election Fraud irregularities, so that it could be thrown to the Supreme Court. Rosen was routinely getting Conspiracy Theory links in his inbox, from Trump Chief of Staff. At one point the reply from a fellow A.G. was simply:
“Pure insanity.” [ODAG Richard Donoghue, pg 231]
Their subsequent attempt to crash through DOJ Door #3 was only thwarted due to the dedication of District Attorneys across the nation, to the rule of law. Several of them agreed to resign en-mass on a Zoom call, if Trump chose to fire Rosen and replace him with the co-conspirator yes-man Clark.
Clark was more than willing to throw the state-certified Election into Electoral chaos. Jeffrey Clark was author/instigator of much of the scheme to do so. Clark has since pleaded the 5th on his own behalf. How convenient.
Heckvua Job there, Clarkie!

If the current DOJ is to REALLY salvage its now tarnished reputation, its respect, its role in the fragile co-equal branches of government, on which the future of American democracy now teeters …
Then the current DOJ must investigate these active coup-plotters, and indict them under the full weight of the law.
Investigating and indicting those who would overturn the peaceful transfer of power — “at all levels” — must also take into account how the DOJ itself ‘was played like a fiddle’ by the last administration.
Just because ‘Nero’ was as conniving, as he was ruthless — does not mean he should forever remain beyond the long reach of the Law. If we still hold to the principle that: “No one should be above the Law” — then that must include those entrusted with the most power too.
With great power, comes even greater responsibility.
That 3-legged stool we used to call “checks and balances” is burning, as Justice dithers. And the ruthless one is tuning up his encore sonata, as we speak. We’ve been warned.
