If you are looking for unexpected GOOD NEWS, the October surprise is the narrow margin in CO-03, with the incumbent (mis-) Representative Lauren Boebert. One local pundit expressed his surprise that “recent polls show Democratic challenger Adam Frisch is not just within striking distance but has pulled into a statistical dead-heat.” Read more about the expressed surprise of Mario Nicolais, a frequent opinion writer for The Colorado Sun, here.

Canada bans new handgun sales
Friday's action stops people from buying, selling or transferring handguns within Canada, and prevents them from bringing newly acquired handguns into the country
Canadian Public Safety Minister called it the most significant action on gun violence in Canada in a generation.
"We have frozen the market for handguns in this country," Trudeau said. "As we see gun violence continue to rise... we have an obligation to take action."
Slavery and racism. Jim Crow and racism. The Southern Strategy and racism. MAGAism and racism. QAnon and racism. Nativism and racism. Pseudo-Christianity and racism. With anti-Semitism throughout. Science denial and racism. Racism around the world. It’s always been all about the racism.
And misogyny toward women of any race. Fear, rage, and hate.
“Make America Great Again” is a dog whistle for going back to the un-woke past of racism, sexism, and all of the other hatreds, and the various fairy tales that the haters tell each other, such as the Lost Cause mythology.
But that’s them, a shrinking, if shrieking minority. Anti-racism goes back just as far, and is alive and well.
There is other major news, but too much of it is tied to racism. The main problem Wrong-Wingers have with President Biden is their idea that he is a race traitor. The problem with elections is increasing diversity and wokeness. The moral panic about politicians being Soft on Crime is rooted in racism, going back to Chinese and opium, Mexicans “hopped up” on weed, cocainized Blacks, and so on. Our police, military, school systems, and other parts of government are riddled with explicit racism, authoritarianism, and pseudo-religious Dominionism.

The Rise of Wokeness in the Military

Director, Center for National Defense
Thomas W. Spoehr conducts and supervises research on national defense matters.
Precious time and money are being poured into woke programs and projects that would be better applied towards making the military more capable.
The following is adapted from a talk delivered on July 20, 2022, at the Allan P. Kirby, Jr. Center for Constitutional Studies and Citizenship on Hillsdale’s Washington, D.C. campus, as part of the AWC Family Foundation Lecture Series.
Complaints by veteran soldiers about younger generations who lack discipline and traditional values are as old as war itself. Grizzled veterans in the Greek phalanx, Roman legions, and Napoleon’s elite corps all believed that the failings of the young would be the ruin of their armies. This is not the chief worry of grizzled American veterans today. The largest threat they see by far to our current military is the weakening of its fabric by radical progressive (or “woke”) policies being imposed, not by a rising generation of slackers, but by the very leaders charged with ensuring their readiness.
Wokeness in the military is being imposed by elected and appointed leaders in the White House, Congress, and the Pentagon who have little understanding of the purpose, character, traditions, and requirements of the institution they are trying to change. The push for it didn’t begin in the last two years under the Biden administration—nor will it automatically end if a non-woke administration is elected in 2024. Wokeness in the military has become ingrained. And unless the policies that flow from it are illegal or directly jeopardize readiness, senior military leaders have little alternative but to comply.
Heritage is trying to tell you that we want soldiers who want to kill supposed subhumans, such as we saw in Vietnam. This goes back to Truman desegregating the military starting in 1948, and the move among Southern segregationist Democrats to bolt to the Republicans, let by Strom Thurmond. (And good riddance, even with a half century of the Southern Strategy and its extensions that followed.)

CNN: Washington Post: Some documents seized at Mar-a-Lago contained sensitive secrets about Iran and China
Disclosure of the documents’ contents could expose US intelligence-gathering methods, people familiar with the matter told the Post. At least one of the documents describes Iran’s missile program and others described highly sensitive intelligence involving China.

WaPo: ‘Gaffes’ aside, I once assumed GOP goodwill on race. I was wrong. By MichaelGerson

It was true until bogus Libertarian Goldwater decided to run on States Rights (to oppress their citizens), and steamrolled the rest of the Party.
What does the return of unvarnished racism to the center of our political culture mean?
Yeah, a lot of us already knew, and don’t need it explained again. If that isn’t you, go get educated. The information is all public, now that the worst of the worst are saying screaming the quiet parts out loud.
AP: Twitter, Instagram block Kanye West over antisemitic posts
Kanye West once suggested slavery was a choice. He called the COVID-19 vaccine “the mark of the beast.” Earlier this month, he was criticized for wearing a “White Lives Matter” T-shirt to his collection at Paris Fashion Week.
Now the rapper who is legally known as Ye is again embroiled in controversy — locked out of Twitter and Instagram over antisemitic posts that the social networks said Sunday violated their policies. In one post on Twitter, Ye said he would soon go “death con 3 on JEWISH PEOPLE,” according to internet archive records, making an apparent reference to the U.S. defense readiness condition scale known as DEFCON.
Nowsweek: Republican Tuberville Accused of 'Open Appeal to Racism' at Trump Rally
Tuberville, an Alabama Republican who was previously Auburn University's head football coach, gave a speech at the rally in support of Trump-backed candidates Adam Laxalt and Joe Lombardo, who are running in the state's highly competitive Senate and gubernatorial races.
During his speech, he attacked Democrats as being weak on crime. Crime remains a major issue for millions of voters ahead of the November midterm elections. Democrats have pushed for criminal justice reform policies to fix what they view as a system that perpetuates racial inequality. Republicans, however, say these reforms actually lead to an increase in crime.
"They want crime because they want to take over what you've got. They want to control what you have," he said to the cheering crowd. "They want reparations because they think that the people who do the crime are owed that."

What the Indian Caste System Taught Me About Racism in American Schools
By Eesha Pendharkar
I was a local reporter in Bangor, Maine, in December 2019 when I heard three Black students first voice their complaints at a joint school committee and city council meeting about years of racism they endured at one of the state’s largest high schools. Black students, who make up less than 4 percent of the school’s population, said their white classmates justified white supremacy during classroom discussions, defended the enslavement of Black people, told them to “go back where they came from,” and regularly said the “N” word in the schools’ hallways and classrooms, according to six months of reporting I conducted in 2020.
For years, Bangor’s school officials ignored the litany of complaints students filed, but when my article, “Racism Is My High School Experience,” was published last May, amid nationwide protests spurred by the murder of George Floyd, the response from the school department was swift and abrupt.

All zoning throughout US history has been racist or, rarely, anti-racist. There is nothing in between.
