NBC News reporter breaks down AZ's rejection of Kari Lake and the larger losing message of Trump

NBC News’ Vaughn Hillyard spent roughly a year and half on the campaign trail with Kari Lake as she ricocheted around the state hyping conspiracy theories and of course, Donald Trump’s Big Lie.

Appearing on Morning Joe from Mar-a-Lago ahead of Donald Trump’s likely announcement of a 2024 run, Hillyard preempted the Trump announcement discussion to succinctly offer his thoughts about Arizona voters rejecting Kari Lake’s campaign and ultimately rejecting Donald Trump himself.

This was a terrific breakdown of the failures of Trump-endorsed candidates and Trump himself.

Hillyard nailed the landing: “When you look at the slate of election deniers she was the latest one to fall making it a clean sweep of those candidates and secretary of state candidates and now Donald Trump will try to run on the message that they lost on.”

Arizona handing Trump another loss is just another indicator things might be finally pivoting away from Donald Trump. This might well be the MAGA dam breaking.

Another indicator Republicans are trying to slowly back away from Donald Trump:

Rep. Matt Gaetz, one of the very few GOP lawmakers who had planned to go down to Mar-a-Lago tonight for Trump’s announcement, says the weather is not looking good for his flight down from D.C. to Florida. But he will be there “in spirit.”
