Mitch McConnell will not be Senate Majority Leader. A small group of Republicans immune to learning’ stuff are challenging his right to be Minority Leader. (Good luck Rick!)
Chief among the reasons is certainly the blow back from the Dobbs decision. I’ve yet to see any talking heads raise this point. Had Chief Justice been able to control the Trump wing of the Supreme Court, the election just past may well have turned out very differently. The most partisan Court in our history, in being impatient, seems to have committed political malpractice.
Pause to think how the midterms may have played out if the swaggering. Newbies on the court had waited until next term to gut Roe.

If John Roberts couldn’t guide the action of the Court, he should resign. Giving a Democratic President and Senate a chance to restore balance to the court might save that institution from its worst inclinations. It’s too crass to note the actuarial likelihood of Thomas leaving the court soon, but is within bounds to suggest that he pay a price for colluding with his wife. Either way, the Court will likely keep shooting the Republicans in the foot with bad bench law
