This will be short and to the point — how was YOUR voting experience today?
I live in a small central Kentucky town; my polling place is the local elementary school, which is only 100 yards or so from my house. Since I work from home, I always vote around 8 am; it’s a nice walk, I know several of the poll workers, and catching up with neighbors is a nice way to spend one’s day.
One interesting change this year; any voter in my county can vote at any of the county’s four polling stations! They use an electronic poll book to verify one’s registration, and they print each voter’s ballot on demand. I have to imagine that this saves a TON of money on printing, and going back to all-paper-ballots is a good thing in any case…
I’ve never seen my polling place so busy at 8 am. There were roughly 15 people ahead of me when I entered the polling place, and the line had grown to 30+ and snaked out the door by the time I scanned my ballot and left. My county has always had comparatively high turnout, and we went above 70% in 2020; it will be interesting to see if our turnout is even higher today.
So, how’d it go for you?
