In Moorhead, MN, I voted today a little after noon (lunchtime). I had to wait in line for about 15 minutes, which was fine. I voted 100% for Democrats in the statewide races because I like all of the Dem candidates. But let’s take a closer look at my local school board candidates.
The school board election is non-partisan, so there’s no (D) or (R) after the names. This year there were 11 school board candidates and voters could pick three. The top three will get elected to the school board. It was hard to research the candidates because not all of them had websites or Facebook pages.
To begin, I found three people who would DEFINITELY NOT get my vote. A neighbor a block away had two lawn signs for Republicans and he also had a single lawn sign with the names Ken Lucier, Lisa Hahn, and Nikki Pollock for school board (because you vote for three people). I was pretty sure I wouldn’t vote for any of them. It turns out the three school board candidates had a Facebook page called “KLN for Moorhead School Board” (you can look at it if you’re interested). KLN is the first initials of Ken, Lisa, and Nikki. They’re all crazy and horrible people.
One of them (Nikki) has a list of books she wants banned from all public schools, including “Slaughterhouse Five” by Kurt Vonnegut. She thinks it’s pornographic. Hey, I read that book when I was in high school. It’s a good book that made me think. They’re in favor of “putting God back in schools” (by which they mean the Christian God, of course, but not any other God). They’re against Critical Race Theory (CRT), which is a bullshit issue. The local schools aren’t teaching CRT. KLN are against COVID masks and vaccine mandates, of course. One of them (Lucier) was once a member of Oathkeepers.
I’m happy to report that all three of them, Ken, Lisa, and Nikki (KLN) lost the election. With 28 of 28 precincts reporting, not one of them was in the top three. Two of the three people I voted for won. I almost voted for the other one.
It’s important to look at every candidate (even school board). Don’t vote for crazies. Do your research before you vote.
