The chart above shows a freezing cold weekend in Ukraine coming up and extending into early next week, particularly in the war zones of the east. In the longer range, the weather models are lining up pretty well for a big warm up in Central and Southern Europe, with warmer temps well above freezing extending well eastward into Ukraine by Friday, December 9th, as shown in the chart below.
Not a widespread winter deep freeze yet, it seems. The predicted thaw later next week could perhaps extend mud season. But hopefully the predicted above-freezing weather will warm the hearts and bodies of Ukraine’s defenders facing power shortages.
The longer range ensemble forecasts are still pretty warm, at least based on the European model. But predictions at the 2 week level are highly uncertain. The U.S. models are colder by that time.
