Daily Kos Political Director & elections expert David Nir has a story up about Democrat Aaron Rouse, who’s running for a vacant seat in the Virginia state senate. While Democrats in the state senate have the bare number to be in the majority, they are burdened by a “Democrat” worse than Manchin or Sinema. So the majority status is ephemeral. Please read David’s diary to get all the details.
The purpose of my diary is to get people writing postcards for Aaron Rouse.
State legislative elections are where each of us can have an effect far greater than we can in Congressional or Senate or state-wide elections. And writing postcards is a really easy (and fun) way to do that.
Here’s the site:
Postcards To Voters
All the instructions about how to sign up, what to write, etc. are on the site.
For those of you on limited or low incomes, there are costs — for the stamps and postcards,* so I know not everyone will be able to do it. Postcard stamps cost 44¢ each.
But if anyone’s interested and can manage the costs, or can come up with enough $ to do even 5 or 10 postcards, please get moving on this right away since the election is on January 10.
I’ve been writing for Postcards to Voters for several years — and I really appreciate being able to do this since I can’t do door-knocking (foot problem) and am not rich enough to donate a significant amount. I also actually enjoy it — using different color pens and highlighters to make it colorful and personal.
One of the nice things about Postcards to Voters is you can sign up to do just a few or a lot — they ask how many you can do within the next couple of days and so you can tailor this to your schedule. For example, I sign up for 20-30 at a time because I know I can manage that within 2 days. But if you have a very tight schedule, you can sign up to do as few as 4.
And once you’re part of their system, you just text “Hello” to their phone number, and they come back with your choices. It’s great to be part of their group which is a truly grass roots effort!
Hope this gets a few people interested in doing this!

*Until the 2020 midterms, I made my own postcards using card stock and my printer and that worked fine, though it was time consuming. But my printer is acting up so I ordered postcards from a vendor (the site has information on where you can order them). And I must say, it made my job much easier and the postcards are much higher quality than what I was printing out on my little inkjet. The vendor, an Etsy shop, was very responsive, got the postcards to me within 2 days and is clearly a person who supports our candidates. The postcards I ordered were general positive GOTV types, so I can use them for any campaign.
