Like most sites Mastodon uses iframe embeds. That means Daily Kos displays content hosted on another site. Of course this causes security concerns.
Here’s my first attempt embedding from mastodon.social. I get the iframe code by clicking the three dot menu seen below in the bottom right corner of the post.
Element removed
Didn’t work. I got an error.
1 non-whitelisted iframe(s) have been removed from your story:
https://mastodon.social/@hairylarry/109506859561011892/embed
What this means is that mastodon.social has not been approved for embedding.
So here’s an attempt at embedding the old fashioned way. I took a screenshot to GIMP (My image editor) and cropped the post saving it as a png. (jpgs should also work)
It’s important to include the link.
mastodon.social/…
I got that from the three dot menu by clicking Copy link to post. This puts the link on your clipboard so you can paste it into your post. The link will be shortened as you see above.
My imported picture has been hanging around below my text. If you hover over the picture you will see a button with four arrows open above the upper left corner of the image. Use this button to click and drag the image where you want it in the post.
I will also try this in a comment so we can see how that works.
